Not long after the events of the Konosuba movie, Kazuma Sato and his friends are once again bumbling their way through this fantasy world, and this time, Kazuma made some powerful friends along the way. Iris Stylish-Sword Belzerg is a young princess who got involved with Kazuma, and sheer hilarity ensued.

Iris was in her rebellious phase as a young teen, and she even started taking after Kazuma, which could only lead to more trouble as Kazuma’s squad goofed off in the Kingdom of Belzerg. Another amusing development is Aqua’s protective feeling about a mysterious egg, one that she insists will one day hatch into the great dragon Emperor Zel. Only time will tell if Aqua is about to hatch a monster she can’t control, or if the hatching creature will be a total disappointment in Aqua’s eyes.

Oshi no Ko Raised the Stakes With a Love Triangle

Oshi no Ko has already established itself as an unforgettable dark drama and romance series that’s a scathing indictment of Japan’s idol industry. Back in Season 1, Aqua and Ruby Hoshino lost their mother, Ai, and now they’re teenagers trying to find their way in their second lives. Season 2 of the anime launched the Tokyo Blade story arc, where Aqua, Kana Arima, and Akane Kurokawa fought it out with their intense love triangle, not to mention the girls’ professional feud.

Oshi no Ko‘s second season also intrigued fans as Ruby stumbled upon the truth of Dr. Gorou Amamiya, who mysteriously vanished years ago. She and Akane were horrified to find the doctor’s skeletal remains, with Ruby gaining dark eye stars as she vowed to get revenge for her favorite doctor’s murder. However, she’s still unaware that Dr. Gorou Amamiya has been by her side all this time as her twin brother, hiding in plain sight.

Solo Leveling Introduced Viewers to the Mighty Jinwoo Sung

Solo Leveling swiftly became an iconic new anime in 2024, starring the underdog hero Jinwoo Sung. He lives in a world where magical portals to monster-infested dungeons appear all over the place, including his native South Korea, and that calls for some Hunters to save the day. Hunters of all ranks fight back against those monsters, but an E-rank Hunter like Jinwoo can only hope to survive.

Jinwoo cheated death after a double dungeon disaster, and now he has the unique ability to level up all his stats as he slays monsters in yet more dungeon adventures. This is Jinwoo’s best chance to become the mighty hunter he always wanted to be, but while he’s made impressive progress so far, much work remains to be done. Experienced fans, meanwhile, know just how powerful and glamorous Jinwoo will soon become, and they can’t wait to see that in the anime, too.

Kaiju No. 8 Was a Fresh Take on the Kaiju Genre

The “monster hunter” concept in anime was refreshed in the outstanding Kaiju No. 8 anime. While it’s not an entirely new idea for a hero like Kafka Hibino to become a half-other monster, Kafka still feels refreshing in other ways. He’s not another bright-eyed teen with everything to prove — Kafka is a 32-year-old man who’s afraid that the door to his intended career is about to shut for good.

That’s an underused perspective in shonen anime, with Kafka being twice the age of typical action leads and having the theme of making up for lost time before it’s too late. It’s sympathetic to see someone like him trying not to feel dejected or embarrassed as he pushes himself yet again to strive for his dream after failing so many times, and now he’s got a chance — as Kaiju No. 8. All that, combined with some terrific action sequences and some fun mysteries, makes Kaiju No. 8 rank in the middle among 2024’s best anime.

My Hero Academia’s Brutal Final Battle is Now Underway

The My Hero Academia anime returned for its 7th season in 2024, and it absolutely delivered on the buildup of Seasons 5 and 6. For some time now, the villains have been rising to power as hero society unraveled, and it all came to a head in Season 7 as the remaining heroeds made a desperate final bid to defeat the villain All For One and his protege, Tomura Shigaraki. Leading the charge was Deku himself, who’s ready to face his destiny against his dark counterpart Tomura.

Season 7 didn’t just amaze anime fans with its Quirk-fueled action scenes, though. This season also had serious emotional weight, such as the fractured Todoroki family coming together as one to stop Toya/Dabi from destroying everything, which was a heartfelt victory for that troubled family. Even better was the conclusion of Himiko Toga’s and Ochaco Uraraka’s rivalry, with Ochaco finally seeing Himiko as the beautiful girl she is, one who just wanted to be acknowledged for who she is.

Dandadan Delighted Fans With its Goofy Sci-Fi Action and Humor

Dandadan has become one of the very best anime of 2024 thanks to its electrifying blend of wacky humor, its cool supernatural powers, eerie spirits like Turbo Granny, and the arrival of sinister aliens from outer space, like the predatory Serpoians. Dandadan was off to a powerful start as Momo Ayase and Okarun reluctantly teamed up to prove themselves right about the existence of ghosts and aliens.

Before long, Okarun became a half-other action star with Turbo Granny’s powers, and Momo had a rough close encounter with the Serpoian aliens as they abducted her aboard their cartoony UFO in the dead of night. Now, Momo and Okarun are good friends and fellow fighters as they take on more bizarre threats like Acrobatic Silky and the mercenary alien Mr. Mantis Shrimp, all while friends like Aira Shiratori and Jiji join the fray.

De-Aged Goku & Friends Explore the Demon Realm in Dragon Ball: DAIMA

Akira Toriyama’s beloved Dragon Ball franchise returned with the Fall 2024 anime season with a fifth anime installment, Dragon Ball: DAIMA. When an enemy conspires to minimize the threat Goku poses by aging him and his friends backwards, they make their way to the Demon Realm to find a solution and get to the bottom of it. Gathering new allies along the way, it’s often hard to tell which of them are friends and which might be foes, infiltrating to gather information to help bring the powerful Saiyan down once and for all.

Goku has grown immensely over the years, so seeing him young again is as funny as it has been intriguing. Not only is he in need of his red Power Pole again, due to his smaller stature, but as they delve deeper into the Demon Realm in search of answers and an enemy no one has seen for a very long time, Goku will have to prove that big or small, he’s a force to be reckoned with.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Has Returned as an Action-Packed Shonen Legend

The best anime of 2024 is definitely Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. While the original Bleach anime was excellent yet sluggishly paced with countless episodes, this new anime is quality over quantity with its episodes. This sleek new anime is now playing by the same rules as its successors, such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer, with outstanding results time and again.

The new Bleach anime is 2024’s best anime not only because of its sharp pacing and high production values, but also the rich lore and fantastic cast of characters. This anime has the weight of 300+ episodes behind it, giving serious depth and meaning behind everything that is happening, from Shunsui Kyoraku supporting Nanao Ise in battle to Nemu Kurotsuchi’s glow-up as a fierce fighter. This third cour also blew fans away with incredible battles against the remaining Sternritter, including an emotionally charged showdown between Jugram Haschwalth and Bazz-B.
