Toga and Ochako's battle is one of the saddest and most complex My Hero High School the whole place. While Uraraka started the series hating Himiko with a burning passion, when the Final War arc began, the hero wanted to understand his enemy on a deeper level. It was Toga's words that helped Ochako to emphasize and understand that bad people are not pure evil as he believed.
This complicated and hurtful relationship is made even more painful by the small but simple changes made in the anime adaptation of the series. In episode 153 of My Hero High School tv show, Toga's last words to Ochako before being teleported away by Kurogiri they are treated in a wonderful and unique way.
Toga and Ochako's War Was a Very Disaster for a Simple Change
By showing Himiko Responding to Uraraka, the Anime greatly developed their relationship
During episode 153 of the script My Hero High School anime adaptation, the battle between Toga, Ochako, and Tsuyu can be seen. The heroes were desperately trying to prevent Himiko from drinking Kabili's blood, due to the risk of awakening her dead friend's Quirk and creating an army of villains for All For One to command. After a long and terrifying encounter, Uraraka and Tsuyu fail in their mission, as Kurogiri, also known as the late Shirakumo, opens a portal that not only gives Toga enough time to drink the bottle but also allows him to escape.
Seeing this villain walking through the fog, Ochako screamed at Himiko saying that they hadn't talked about love like the villain wanted them to. Toga, dejected, replies to Uraraka that he wishes they had discussed those topics as friends, before disappearing. This moment is taken directly from chapter 375 of the manga series. However, the anime added a small but important change that made this event even more difficult to witness. In the manga, Toga's last words before disappearing are never clearly stated to have been heard by Uraraka.
The conversation is shown over a black background, meaning that Himiko didn't get to tell Uravity her true feelings. The anime made it clear that Toga not only spoke directly to Ochako but looked her in the eye as he spoke of his unfulfilled wish. Uraraka has been confirmed that he knew that Himiko still wanted to be accepted and have a friend to be with. This small change may not mean much at the moment, but it completely changes the upcoming battle between Uravity and Toga that will happen soon.
Uraraka Wanted To Help Toga Heal
This Bandit's Words May Be What Pushed Him To Go This Way To Himiko
Warning: SPOILERS ahead for future episodes of My Hero AcademiaFor years, Toga roamed the streets of Japan looking for someone who would understand him and not treat him like a monster. When he met Ochako during the Jungle Training Camp, he believed he had found someone just like him, someone with a great love for sharing with others. This belief was destroyed when Uraraka treated Toga as a simple old woman who needed to be defeated when they met in the middle of the brutal and deadly arc of the Paranormal Liberation War. Himiko becomes less and less happy, abandoning her desire to be accepted and instead focusing on bringing down the Hero Society.
Uraraka quickly realized his mistake and promised that he will be the one to accept Toga, that's why he wants to accept his request to talk about love and romance in episode 153. Hearing Toga saying that he still has the same hope of belonging to Uravity. the friend may be the one who pushed Ochako to try hard to save this villain. This would explain why Uraraka almost died from blood loss just to make Toga realize his worth as a human and stop seeing himself as a beast.
However, the most important difference is this small change that brings the anime and manga the importance of Himiko's redemption and sacrifice. Once he felt recognized and accepted by Ochako, the villain decided to risk his life by giving this warrior a large portion of his blood. This led to his death when the Final War arc ended, which greatly affected Uraraka. The guilt Ochako feels after Himiko's sacrifice becomes even more painful, as she knows how much Toga longed for acceptance, and died soon after finding someone who didn't judge her.
Despite the small difference between the My Hero High School anime and manga versions Ochako's conversation with Toga it can be seen, it changes the importance of their future actions. These changes can help the audience empathize and connect more with Himiko and Uravity during their upcoming devastating and emotional confrontation.
