Warning: Spoilers for Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) #8 ahead!Few heroes in Marvel's Ultimate Universe have changed their lives in such a dramatic way Spider Manand the return of his old group of enemies only proves this point. The latest batch of New York managers is a great twist Sinister Sixshakes up the roster of iconic villains in deadly new ways.
Spider-Man's enemies enter The Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) #8 by Jonathan Hickman, Marco Checchetto, and Matthew Wilson. Planning his attack on Spider-Man, Wilson Fisk calls his lieutenants – Mr. Negative, Kraven, Mysterio, Black Cat, and Mole Mancriminals lead each state of New York – in the conference.
While the gathering appears to be that of random New Yorkers at first glance, the sheer number of counts and the presence of Kraven and Mysterio give the game that this is actually an enhanced version of the Sinister Six.
Spider-Man's All New Sinister Six Completely Reinvents The Team
Released in early 1964 The Amazing Spider-Man of the year #1 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko (only two years after Spider-Man himself), the Sinister Six have always been a group of Spider-Man's greatest enemies. Although the schedule often changes, the basic structure usually remains the same: a heavy hitter like Sandman or Rhino, a person with non-physical powers like Electro or Shocker, a specialist like Kraven or Mysterio, and led by Doctor Octopus, who acts as the brains of the operation.. The Sinister Six complement each other's skills so well that defeat often comes down to the team's volatile temper or team arrogance, rather than a lack of strength or skill.
The Ultimate Universe's Sinister Six shuffle the team's roles wonderfully. While mainstays like Kraven and Mysterio remain, Wilson Fisk has replaced Doctor Octopus as the leader of the team while simultaneously taking on the role of green muscle. Mr. Negative seems to act as the “super-powered” part that usually goes to Electro, his abilities serving as the team's biggest wild card. The most surprising change has to be replacing the Vulture (air support and resupply) with the Mole Man, opting for the “eyes everywhere underground” approach instead of the old eye in the sky.
Sinister Six Roster Shows Marvel Is Taking The Team Seriously
New The Ultimate Spider-Man the series is about exploring different angles of Peter Parker's life: he's grown up here, he's raising his own family. Therefore, it makes no sense to pair him against the original Sinister Six. That group consisted of egomaniac lovers who were dedicated to revenge on Spider-Man, who had defeated them all before. The members of this new team, on the other hand, have no history with Spider-Man at all. This difference removes their egos from the equation, meaning they are more willing to follow the Kingpin, their undisputed leader.
As the crime lords who rule this version of New York, each member of the Sinister Six is ready to challenge a different part of Parker's overall life. Spider-Man's life has been shaken in new ways; it makes sense then that the villains of Sinister Six he did so.
