Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Incredible Hulk 2024 #1! Thanos he is probably the greatest villain in the Marvel Universe, not only because he has awesome powers and has shaken the universe more than once, but because he really likes killing and mayhem. However, that shouldn't suggest that Thanos can't be defeated, or redeemed, as Marvel Comics has recently created a superhero that has what it takes to do just that.
In The Incredible Hulk of the Year 2024 #1 by Derek Landy and Geoff Shaw, Thanos is on the hunt for a new Stone Bearer, as he hopes to retrieve all of the Infinity Stones so he can once again become omnipotent. This comic is the latest addition to this ongoing The Infinity Watch Sagaa story told in many places In the year 2024 jokes. In this, the Mind Stone found a bearer, and imbued that person with telepathic powers – and his name is Worldmind.
When Thanos finds the Worldmind, the Stone Bearer hits Thanos with a mind attack so powerful that it drops the Mad Titan to his knees. Worldmind explains that the only reason Thanos is hunting for the Infinity Stones – and why he's a villain – is because of his childhood trauma. Therefore, Worldmind said he would alter Thanos' memories of his childhood, erase that trauma and thus reshape who Thanos is at a fundamental level, defeating him and perhaps even rescuing him in the process.
Mind Stone Its 1 'Hero' That Can Defeat Thanos
Every Infinity Stone Becomes Heroic 'Athletes' On Purpose, Making Heroic Stones On Their Own
Worldmind's plan to get rid of Thanos is solid, as the Mad Titan was completely unable to move while the god-tier wizard was focused on his mind. Unfortunately, Thanos gathered the strength to break out of it, and killed the Worldmind before the hero could finish the job. But, just because it didn't work this time doesn't mean it won't work in the future, especially if the Mind Stone chose an already powerful telepath as its host.
If someone like Charles Xavier, Emma Frost, or Jean Gray were imbued with the power of the Mind Stone (rather than someone like Worldmind, who became a telepath along with the stone), it's a fair assumption that they could. succeeding where Worldmind failed. They will have an intuitive understanding of telepathic powers, and with the cosmic enhancement of the Mind Stone, they can change everything about Thanos in a second.
The Infinity Stones as heroes is an Awesome Idea That Needs to Stay
One of the best aspects of this 'one hero' who can take down Thanos is the fact that that hero is the Mind Stone itself, especially as it is also true of the other Infinity Stones. These sentient cosmic artifacts deliberately choose heroes to inhabit, and when these heroes come together as a group, their individual powers grow exponentially. The Infinity Stones have been used by heroes and villains alike, seemingly without a say in the matter. Now, Marvel Comics gives them a voice, and they decide to become cosmic heroes – and that's a great idea.
The Infinity Watch has the potential to be the superhero team in the Marvel Universe, powered and guided by the Infinity Stones themselves. Only time will tell how their story will play out, but in the short term, it seems that one of Infinity Watch's heroes, the Mind Stone, has already figured out how to defeat (and rescue) Thanos permanently – may just need to find a better host to really get the job done.
