I'm almost in Harry Potter. The very first film, I think it was. Tom Riddle is the first, right?
I remember it was at the beginning of my career. I'm an interviewer and I think they want to put me on retainer. I had never done any work and I and I think the other ten actors, they wanted to put us in the last place to hold us and keep us selected later.
And they give quite a lot of money. For me at the time, it was a ton of money. It was like 40 thousand pounds or something like that. I did very little work and I couldn't do any work for about seven months, I think.

Our take on The Revelation of James McAvoy
Young Tom Riddle deserved to lose because of the amazing role James McAvoy went on to play instead
McAvoy excels in every role he has ever played, and I have no doubt that he would have been very successful as well Harry Potter. In the end I'm glad that he turned down the role, however, as it may have prevented him from taking some of the roles he had in the mid-to-late 2000s that formed the trajectory of his entire career. I'd love to have McAvoy in those roles and the roles he's had since as a young Tom Riddle, though it would be a unique career.
