Et ce détail a toujours été là, mais [creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford) and I really went back and made sure we were all on the same page as to where he was born and what happened.

And it’s kind of interesting, but a very revealing page in his past, I would say is that he’s not someone who’s had a childhood. He’s someone who’s kind of had his childhood snatched away from him, and it’s why he looks at the kids sort of with disdain. They’re just small adults. Why don’t they understand they’ve got to get on and survive? And why are they so inexperienced? He has no real concept of innocence.»

What Jude Law’s Hints Mean For Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

An intriguing hint that he may be Force-sensitive after all

We’re actually getting answers about Jude Law’s mysterious character at a surprising rate. Nobody expected Skeleton Crew to name-drop his «Crimson Jack» identity in such a matter-of-fact way as episode 3, and it was pretty obvious he was also Captain Silvo. In Legends, though, Crimson Jack never had the Force – which suggests there’s another aspect to this mystery.

Star Wars has subtly hinted «Crimson Jack» is an alias, something like the «Dread Pirate Roberts» in The Princess Bride. If that is the case, then Jude Law’s man of many names has presumably claimed this because it’s an established title for a famous buccaneer in the Star Wars galaxy. Presumably his Force-sensitivity would make him very different to other Crimson Jacks.

Our Take On Whether Jude Law’s Character Has The Force

The hint about his childhood is exciting

The hint that Jod Na Nawood’s childhood was stolen from him is particularly interesting. It sounds like it may well be a reference to Order 66, perhaps meaning his character was living in the Jedi Temple when Palpatine ordered the Jedi to be wiped out. That would certainly snatch his childhood away from him, and leave him bitter and contemptuous of others.

One thing’s for sure: Jod Na Nawood, Crimson Jack, Captain Silvo – whatever his name may be, he doesn’t subscribe to the Jedi Code. That means the kids in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew would be wise not to trust him. Star Wars has a habit of redeeming scoundrels, but it remains to be seen whether that will happen with Jude Law’s enigmatic character.
