Zenless Zone Zero 1.4 Leaks: New Drive Disks Explained

As Zenless Zero Zone 1.4, more information started to leak, the most recent being about new Drive Discs. Excitement for 1.4 has continued to grow with the constant stream of new leaks. Two fantastic recent updates have also helped with this in 1.2 and 1.3, each adding exciting new characters and content, and welcome quality of life changes.

1.4’s most anticipated additions are the new powerful agents ready to join the list. The first is Harumasa, a member of Section 6’s Ultra Fast Attack who uses his bow and sword to deal damage. However, Miyabi, the fearless leader of Section 6, appears to be the most popular choice. This technically Ice Anomaly unit comes with Zenless Zero ZoneFrost’s first dual-element damage, which combines Ice and Fire to deal massive Anomaly damage while also increasing his critical damage.

Due to reliable leaker Flying Flame (shared by Reddit user Bright Lord), there’s a first look at the two new drive disks and what they do. These new additions are called Astral Voice and Branch & Blade Song.

Based on the designs and effects, these two sets are intended for Harumasa and Miyabi respectively. This has been a common trend in all HoYoverse games where sets are released to reinforce new characters, but these sets may just have other uses, albeit to a lesser extent.

It will probably be difficult to combine these two unit disks with other characters. The two-piece attack bonus will be useful for a bonus set, but Hormone Punk already exists. Astral Voice may have some uses on teams that use near-constant Rapid Support, but will likely be slotted into the team’s support unit to maximize DPS damage.

Unfortunately, Branch & Blade Song feels incredibly niche and limited to Miyabi for now. Anomaly units rarely worry about critical damage and those that do require a lot of field time. Even someone like Jane Doe and her best builds would make this set complicated without having a proper Ice agent to help trigger Freeze or Shatter. This set may have a place for Ellen Joe outside of the meta, but that would require increasing her Anomaly Proficiency and ditching Woodpecker Electro or Polar Metal, which are her usual Drive Discs that work much better with her kit.

Overall, even though these drive disks are not very flexible these days, they will excel at what they are intended for. Unfortunately, new characters often require new sets, but Zenless Zero ZoneBarbic Needle makes farming easier than other games. At least these two have some potential for future use, but not as much as other heavily used sets. Regardless, these are the two powerful new Drive Discs set to enter Zenless Zero Zone in 1.4.
