ZA must fix this glaring X and Y problem

Pokémon Legends: ZA is the long-awaited return to the Kalos region that countless fans have waited a decade for. While no new information has been revealed since the February announcement, there’s still plenty for fans to get excited about. In addition to being able to explore the Kalos region in a different time period, there is a beloved gameplay trick that’s finally making a return after many years.

A beloved returning feature from Pokémon X and Y in ZA Legends is the Mega Evolution of Generation 6. Several Pokémon were obtained immensely powerful new forms in the original X and Y games, and many fans are eagerly waiting to see which Pokémon gain Mega forms in Subtitles: ZA. However, there is a specific trio of Pokémon that absolutely need to get Mega Evolutions in this upcoming spin-off.

Kalos Starters never got mega forms in their own game

A great threesome left out of a beloved trick

Since then Pokémon Sun and Moonthe starter Pokémon were able to use any new gimmick introduced in their respective games. Alolan starters can use Z moves, Galar starters get unique Dynamax forms, and virtually any Pokémon can Terastalize into Scarlet and Violet. However, Chesnaught, Delphox and Greninja never managed to Mega Evolve despite debuting in the same game.

Not having the Kalos Mega Evolve starters in their own game is really a missed opportunity, as it would have allowed Game Freak to really give all three a chance to shine. With only older Pokémon receiving Mega forms, their presence overshadows the starters and many of the other Pokémon that were introduced to the Kalos region. Considering the fact that Subtitles: ZA will likely include content cut from the original main games, hopefully giving Gen 6 starters the Mega Evolutions they desperately need.

How these new megaforms would tie into Legends ZA’s narrative

One reason why beginners’ Mega Stones wouldn’t be in X and Y

Introducing Mega Forms for Beginners in Subtitles: ZA could have interesting ramifications for the game’s story. It would be an opportunity to explain why there are so many new megaforms in this game, but not in modern day X and Y. That’s it possible that the region will suffer some immense calamity caused by Zygarde or some other powerful Pokémon that destroys many of the new mega stones, including those associated with the starting trio.

Ultimately, Gen 6’s starting trio should have a chance to get new Mega forms. Not only would they put the spotlight back on these beloved starters, but they would also provide interesting theories about what happened between this spin-off and the main games. Ultimately, giving Mega Evolutions to Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja is an opportunity that Game Freak shouldn’t ignore. Pokémon Legends: ZA.
