Valley of the Stars is a game full of whimsy and surprises, so many fans were disappointed when developer ConcernedApe removed a silly glitch that allowed players to turn a ladder into a pair of shorts. Before the update, placing a ladder in a character’s “pants” slot turned them into the “Mayor’s Lucky Shorts,” a pair of purple athletic shorts unrelated to ladders. When the update was introduced, it fixed the glitch, making it no longer possible to wear stairs like pants.
The fix is in Valley of the Stars since update 1.6 first released earlier this year, but was recently rediscovered by console and mobile gamers when they finally received the update earlier this month. Reddit Agile_Paper457 caught the community’s attention through a post succinctly titled: “NOOOO.“
The patch notes state that the “ability to equip ladders as pants to get trimmed lucky purple shorts” was fixed, much to the dismay of many players. Something about the silly nature of the glitch appealed to many fans, leading to disappointment with its removal from the game. Fortunately, ConcernedApe did not leave fans empty-handed and added a secret Easter egg related to the ladder pants glitch.
Stardew Valley’s Lucky Shorts Glitch Has Been Replaced With a Ridiculous Easter Egg
Finding the Easter egg still involves a ladder
Reddit user rt_lilmstar tells players not to be too sad, as ConcernedApe”I would never take something so pleasant away from us unless I had a plan.“They then suggest that everyone Valley of the Stars players disappointed with bug removal try putting a ladder in Mayor Lewis’s room “and see what secrets you find.” Other comments suggest the same, but don’t actually say what happens when players do this, because it’s a delightful Easter egg for players to discover on their own.
Warning: The following paragraph reveals what happens when players use a ladder in the Mayor’s room. Fans who don’t want this spoiled should skip to the next section.Using a ladder in Lewis’s room takes the player to the basement, where a dark maze of boxes and barrels ends with the purple shorts as the prize. Players who manage to get through the maze will find themselves chased by a pair of ghostly floating shorts who follow them until they leave the basement. Returning to the ladder allows players to escape with their newfound loot. This can be repeated indefinitely and players can accumulate up to 999 Lucky Purple Shorts.
He could have simply removed the flaw
Ladder failure for short is ultimately a mistake. Many other developers would have simply fixed the glitch by removing it from the game entirely. Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe, however, cares a lot about its community simply get something fun out of them, even if it was a mistake to begin with.
The addition of the ridiculous Easter egg is a testament to how in tune ConcernedApe is with the game’s fanbase. The developer even set aside work on its next game, The haunted chocolatierfocus all your efforts on Valley of the Stars and bringing update 1.6 to console and mobile players. This level of dedication makes ConcernedApe a unique aspect of the gaming world and just one of the ways in which Valley of the Stars defines the world of cozy games.
