Yellowstone’s Luke Grimes and Kelsey Asbille Talk Season 5 Part B’s “Earth-Shattering” Reveal and Kayce Taking Over the Dutton Ranch

Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for Yellowstone Season 5, Part B, Episode 9, ‘Desire Is All You Need’!Kayce and Monica’s lives became immensely more complicated in yellow stone Season 5, Part B. Part A of the final season of Taylor Sheridan’s hit show saw Dutton’s youngest son and his wife rocked by tragedy when, while driving her and Tate to the hospital amid contractions, Monica became involved in a car accident, resulting in the death of her baby. The rest of the first half of the season saw the mourning of loss, with everyone from Kevin Costner’s John Dutton to Kelly Reilly’s Beth and Gil Birmingham’s Chief Rainwater offering impactful emotional support.

With John busy in the governor’s office and Rip having taken most of the cowboys to Texas to watch over the cattle sent there after some of the land was contaminated, Kayce is left in charge of the Dutton ranch. After many theories considered the possibility, the yellow stone The Season 5 Part B premiere confirmed that John was dead, having been killed by assassins hired by Sarah Atwood at Jamie’s request and made to look like a suicide. As Kayce becomes the ranch’s enforcer, he finds himself duly involved in his brothers’ war.

Alongside Costner, Birmingham and Reilly, the yellow stone The Season 5 Part B cast includes the return of Wes Bentley as Jamie, Kelly Reilly as Beth, Luke Grimes as Kayce, Kelsey Asbille as Monica, Cole Hauser as Rip, Brecken Merrill as Tate, Jefferson White, Ryan Bingham, Wendy Moniz, Forrie J.Smith and Dawn Oliveri. Kicking off the final episodes with a bang, Sheridan is keeping audiences on their toes heading into the series finale.

Before the show’s return Screen speech interviewed Luke Grimes and Kelsey Asbille to discuss yellow stone Season 5, Part B, the “Devastating event“This serves as a catalyst for character arcs in the rest of the season, such as how Monica feels about Kayce taking over her father’s ranch, whether it will affect her relationship with Rip, and Chief Rainwater’s continued involvement in their lives.

All bets are off“To the Dutton family entering part B

…everyone has to get into action mode.

Kayce Dutton seems worried about Yellowstone season 5.

Screen Rant: I’m really happy to talk to you both about these final episodes, even though I haven’t seen them because everything is under wraps right now. Luke, I’d actually love to start with you. As we saw near the end of the first half, Kayce is really becoming a bigger part of the ranch after John left to focus on his job as Governor. I’d love to hear not only what this bigger role will entail for him, but especially because it’s coming in the middle of this heated war between Jamie and Beth.

Luke Grimes: Yeah, I think it’s been a while: “Can Kayce run the ranch?” That’s been the question, whether he would be the logical person to hand it over. But we haven’t seen the qualities yet to see if he can do that. And I think it looks like we can see what he’s capable of. I will say that in the very first episode, a very devastating event happens, and all bets are off, and any kind of plan anyone had is over, and everyone has to go into action mode.

Monica is “Ride or die“With Kayce amid family drama

…Monica loves Kayce completely.

Monica, Kayce and a young teenager are on a balcony in Yellowstone

Kelsey, I’ll talk to you next. Obviously, Kayce and Monica have been dealing with a lot of emotional turmoil in the first half of this season, processing what happened. The ranch has always been something that scared Monica, in a way, especially when Kayce becomes even more involved in it. How do you think Monica feels about Kayce having to step up and take over the ranch?

Kelsey Asbille: I think Monica completely loves Kayce. This is such an important season for him, so I think she trusts him in that sense. Also, at the end of 5A, it’s kind of changing. John and Monica are talking about, “Well, how can we make this work?” So yeah, she’s in it, ride or die. She’ll make it work.

Rip and Kayce would be one”Pretty Bada – Team“If they got along

… these guys haven’t liked each other for a while.

Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Rip (Cole Hauser) working together in Yellowstone.

Luke, I’ll get back to you. Of course, another thing about Kayce running the ranch is that Rip often has his own opinion about who should run the ranch. I’d love to know if that tension will be felt in these final episodes between the two.

Luke Grimes: Yeah, clearly these guys haven’t liked each other for a while. They fight like brothers, but like Yellowstone brothers, which is a little worse than most brothers fight, right? [Chuckles] It’s so hard because there’s not much we can say about what you can expect from all of this. But I will say that I think at some point this will become bigger than their fights and bigger than the ranch and the family. It becomes something that everyone needs to come together rather than be at odds with.

That’s what I like to hear, because I certainly love it when the Duttons actually come together in peace rather than war.

Luke Grimes: Yeah, I mean, Rip and Kayce would be a pretty badass team if they worked together, right?

The involvement of rainwater is “A big part of the Dutton legacy

…[they imagine] an unlimited future for native peoples…

Kayce talks to Mo and Joshua in Yellowstone

Kelsey, I’ll get back to you. Another thing I loved seeing in both stories is Chief Rainwater’s greater involvement with his family, helping him return to his native roots but also truly mourning the loss of his son. The trailer for the final episodes appears to show Kayce and Rainwater growing closer. I’d love to know if we can expect the same from Monica in the final episodes.

Kelsey Asbille: I think a big part of Dutton’s legacy imagines, like Monica and Rainwater, an unlimited future for Native peoples and future generations. So yes, without giving too much away, I think it’s a very important part of Dutton’s legacy. It’s difficult to do that. I’m like, “Ahhh!” I’m sweating here. [Laughs]
