Warning: SPOILERS ahead for the Yellowstone series finale!yellow stone executive producer Christina Voros provided a development update on two more spin-off series from Taylor Sheridan's Western universe. The end of yellow stone saw the Dutton family sell the titular ranch back to the Broken Rock Reservation, with Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) buying a new one, taking their young ranch hand Carter (Finn Little) with them. This sets the stage for the duo's next spinoff series, which is currently in development alongside another show, Madisonboth expanding the franchise's modern narrative.
Talking to TV insiderhowever, Voros acknowledged two others previously announced yellow stone spin-offs, 6666 and 1944providing updates on its development. The executive producer revealed that there are still “some doors open,” and the production of both shows will depend on Sheridan’s decision to continue. While she doesn't know if the shows are still in development, that doesn't mean they won't arrive at some point in the future. I had to say below:
I honestly don't know how Taylor chooses to tell which stories he chooses to tell and when. I think he closed a lot of doors for Yellowstone this season. Obviously there are characters we won't see again because they were dispatched. But I think he left some doors open, and there are some doors that I can't tell if they're locked or not. But we'll know when we get past them.
What Voros' statement says about future Yellowstone spinoffs
It's unclear how expansive the franchise will become
yellow stone began to expand into spinoffs with 1883which told the story of the first generation of Duttons who settled on the land that would become the farm. This was followed by another spinoff set 40 years later, featuring Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) as they deal with issues like the Great Depression. 1923 season 2 is set to begin on February 23, 2025, the first of two spinoffs, alongside Madison confirmed for next year. However, although 6666 was announced in 2021 and 1944 in 2023, there is still no information about the current state of development.
Beth and Rip yellow stone the spinoff will likely take priority, as it will continue the story of the original, following a new Dutton legacy in the process. Sheridan is also overseeing other Paramount programs such as Lioness and Landman now, which may also be eating away at time spent on development 6666 and 1944. While it's not yet clear whether the shows are in development, it could simply be that the broader scope of the creator's projects means they won't be prioritized for some time.
Our take on the 6666 and 1944 development updates
If Yellowstone remains strong, more news could be coming soon
Voros' update indicates that although 6666 and 1944 may not be in active development, their futures could be determined based on how well the next yellow stone spinoffs work. 1923 will likely lead to another year's spinoff, while the Four Sixes Ranch-focused show could be connected to one of the modern shows. While there's nothing concrete yet about what this means for the future, the new programs may still have some life depending on how the prioritized programs perform.
