Xenoblade Chronicles It’s been my favorite series for some time now, with the second game in the series being, in my opinion, the best game ever made. In fact, there are no other games like Xenoblade series, with its commitment to anime-quality cutscenes, bombastic action, thrilling moments, and grand sci-fi fantasy storytelling being rivaled perhaps only by Final fantasyand even then it’s not even close, in my opinion. Xenoblade Chronicles It’s a unique series and that’s why I put so much effort into playing it.
Naturally, I was incredibly excited when Nintendo announced a Definitive Edition of Xenoblade Chroniclesalthough perhaps not for the same reasons as everyone else. While most gamers are grateful for the opportunity to try it out now that the Wii U is apparently defunct, I have another reason to be perhaps a little happy about this announcement. For me, it officially marked the end of a six-year journey that had its ups and downs, but will always be remembered fondly.
I bought Xenoblade Chronicles on all consoles
It’s ridiculous how many copies I own
My Xenoblade Chronicles journey, as I imagine for many people, started with the absolutely incredible Xenoblade Chronicles 2a game that remains my favorite medium of all time and easily one of the best Switch games of all time. When I finished it, after diving more than 100 hours into its beautiful and heartfelt story, I actually cried. It was heartbreaking to finish something so incredible, so painfully dark, but going back to a previous save presented me with a world I had beaten, a world with nothing left to be excited about. I had one option: turn off my switch and move on.
Naturally, I remembered this Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has that very important “2” in the title and began searching for its predecessor. I had never played Xenoblade Chronicles for not having a Wii growing up and skipping the 3DS. For many, Xenoblade Chronicles was the best Wii game ever made, offering a rich story, sprawling locations to explore, and stunning visuals. I wanted to experience it in all its glory, so I bought a second-hand Wii and Xenoblade Chronicles.
However, something was wrong. Firstly, it lacked a portable component, as I prefer to play my Switch in handheld mode rather than docked mode. Then there was the fact that I rushed. After diving into it for about 15 hours, I gave up. Playing directly after winning Xenoblade Chronicles 2 it was a mistakeas they are very similar in many ways and at the time I felt like nothing could live up to the sequel, no matter how good it was. So I waited a long time, until I finally bought a 3DS to play there.
Happily, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition eventually released for the Switch, a day I don’t think I’ll ever forget, offering a truly exceptional JRPG experience.
Unfortunately, this was also wrong, as the screen was too small, the visuals were too degraded, and there was no Japanese voice acting. Despite dedicating a lot of time to both versions, I was still unsatisfied. Happily, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition eventually released for the Switch, a day I don’t think I’ll ever forget, offering a truly exceptional JRPG experience. It finally marked the end of my nightmare. I owned all copies of Xenoblade Chronicles and could finally enjoy it. However, once again, upon beating it, I turned my attention to another Xenoblade game, and the cycle repeated itself.
I already own Xenoblade Chronicles X and I will definitely buy it again
The definitive edition is adding a lot
I’ll be the first to admit that it was a little irresponsible of me to buy a Wii U for way more than it was worth and at absolutely the wrong time, as it was after the Wii U eShop closed. However, There was a part of me that was convinced I needed this to complete my Xenoblade Chronicles journey. With the release of the frankly incredible Future rescued DLC tying everything together, it seemed prudent to play Xenoblade Chronicles. So I bought that Wii U to play all of this.
Of course, perhaps unsurprisingly, it didn’t feel right. Not only was there no Japanese voice acting – only voice acting is available in the NA and EU versions of the game – but the experience is very different from the mainline Xenoblade Chronicles games. I was absolutely not prepared for it and immediately gave up trying to play it. However, there was always a part of me that wanted to play it, largely thanks to the countless hours I spent watching YouTube videos about how Xenoblade Chronicles It’s one of the best Wii U games ever made.
I also had a very confusing relationship with Xenoblade games, like, except Xenoblade Chronicles 2I always hated my first playthrough. I played it on the Wii, 3DS and then twice on the Switch to enjoy it. Xenoblade Chronicles. Xenoblade 3 Chronicles two attempts were made – one for 60 hours and one for 100 hours – to understand why it is potentially the best JRPG ever made. I always imagined it could be the same with Xenoblade ChroniclesBut I never tried it again on Wii U.
Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch ends my decade-long journey
I can finally stop buying the same game
Of course, Xenoblade Chronicles is now coming to Nintendo Switch with lots of new features and content under the Definitive Edition label. Just like with Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive EditionThis ends yet another nightmare, only this time it really is forever. Xenoblade Chronicles Being on Nintendo Switch means all four games in the series are in one placeeach with all of its new and added content, Japanese voice acting, DLC, and enhanced visuals. It’s the complete package for a Xenoblade fan like me and a dream come true.
Although Nintendo announced what is arguably one of the few highly requested Wii U ports with a complete lack of flair or ceremony, I honestly couldn’t be happier. Of course, I will have spent a lot more playing this ridiculously good series than most peopleI bought four separate consoles, five different copies of the same two games, and spent hundreds of hours replaying the same moments, but it was all worth it. Naturally, after investing so much time, money and effort into something you’re passionate about, when it finally works, when it all pays off, it’s amazing.
I love the Xenoblade Chronicles franchise, weird robot maids, ridiculous costumes, and the annoying Nopon included, and I’m extremely grateful for Xenoblade Chronicles will finally be finished, giving fans the conclusion they’ve always wanted. I can’t wait to play it a second time on my Switch, which feels like it’s going to take off any second, and finally understand what all those incredibly positive YouTube videos were talking about. Xenoblade Chronicles Being on the Nintendo Switch ends my years-long nightmare and I couldn’t be happier.
