Wukong director says more “surprises” will come later this year

Dark Myth: Wukong Developer GameScience has had a big year, but according to the studio’s latest statement, it might not be over yet. As an action-packed retelling of the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, Dark Myth: Wukong managed to find a global audience and receive much praise. This momentum recently culminated in Ultimate Game of the Year winning at the Golden Joystick Awards, a major annual video game awards ceremony.

As reported by Eurogamer, Dark Myth: Wukong game director Feng Ji shared the Golden Joystick Awards broadcast available on FGS YouTube channel that there may be some surprises“later this year. The message is mainly aimed at those who have already completed Dark Myth: Wukongbut it’s also part of a broader call to keep an eye on what GameScience is doing.

No further details are offered, but in the absence of concrete news about GameScience’s future plans, it’s still a significant announcement. Feng Ji also thanks everyone who voted Dark Myth: Wukong and delivers the final message to “play hard, rest well.

Dark myth: Wukong has a promising future

A story with room for expansion

The Destined of Dark Myth: Wukong.

Since the launch of Dark Myth: WukongThere has been a lot of speculation about what might happen following the game. Considering both the amount of material contained in the Journey to the West and reported content that was discarded or simplified during development, there’s a lot of potential for future updates, DLC or sequels.

Rumors indicate that sequences of Dark Myth: Wukong may ultimately encompass different stories and characters from classical Chinese literature and history, but the promise of surprises before the end of the year seems more likely to correspond directly to the Destined’s adventure. This could end up manifesting itself in anything from small quality of life updates to the announcement of a major expansionand previous rumors of DLC planned for release around Chinese New Year could tie in perfectly with this.

Our Take – More Dark Myth: Wukong Content Would Be Great

Dark Myth: Wukong Sets a Strong Precedent

I wouldn’t care Dark Myth: Wukong my personal game of the year, but I found its boss fights to be consistently exciting. I’d love to see how GameScience can build on the solid foundation established by Dark Myth: Wukong in the future, and would be happy to return to the game if there are any surprises before the end of the year.

The ad text isn’t specific enough to raise hopes too high, so I won’t bet on the imminent addition of an exciting adventure like Nezha or overhauling any of the game’s weaker points. Still, it’s good to have some news about the future of GameScience and Dark Myth: Wukonghowever vague it may be.
