Notice! Spoilers ahead for episode 5 of Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding.Surprisingly, Mary’s version in Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding is worse than its iterations in Young Sheldon and even The Big Bang Theory. The universe of Chuck Lorre’s sitcom lives on CBS with Montana Jordan and Emily Osment series. Despite its popularity, Young Sheldon It was canceled because of continuity. There was an initial uproar about its demise, but its story essentially continues as Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding. The new show may now be entirely focused on its titular character and his life with the McAllisters, but the Coopers are still present, including Mary, who has already appeared twice.
Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding begins a few months after the end of its prequel, and when Mary and Meemaw first appeared, it was to visit Georgie and Mandy in their new mobile home. Several weeks later, and the couple returns to the McAllisters later, the Cooper matriarch reappears in “Thanksgiving” to spend the holiday with the franchise’s new main family. It takes some time to convince Mary to celebrate the occasion, but despite her rather limited appearance, she acts worse in Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding than in both Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory.
Mary’s behavior at Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding “Thanksgiving” is unacceptable
Georgie tries to keep the Coopers together and Mary makes it difficult
When Mary visited Georgie and Mandy at Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding episode 1, there were already signs that she was heading towards her overly religious iteration in The Big Bang Theory. That being said, she was still reasonable for the most part. In “Thanksgiving”, however, Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding shows how much worse the Cooper matriarch has becomeespecially in terms of being a mother to her remaining children who live in Texas. When Georgie brings up the idea of celebrating Thanksgiving, she insists on doing nothing about it.
Mary’s son tries to convince her, but she becomes defensive and points out that she is putting her foot down by putting herself first this time. This is such a strange revelation considering how she never provided the emotional support that Georgie and Missy needed in the Young Sheldon finale, right after losing his father. In fact, she left Georgie to handle the logistics of George’s funeral, while forcing Missy to be baptized without even talking to her about it and how she was dealing with the grief.
Why Georgie and Mandy’s first marriage exposes the worst parts of Maria
Sheldon is not around for her to take care of
In Young SheldonMary was softer in her religious beliefs, which made it easier to empathize with her in certain cases. In The Big Bang TheorySheldon’s mother was judgmental, racist, and sexist. She used her religion to justify her behavior. Her saving grace, however, was her unwavering love for Sheldon. It helped that compared to Leonard’s mother Beverly, the Cooper matriarch was actually better. That being said, without Sheldon in Georgie and Mandy’s first weddingIt’s hard to see Maria’s maternal sideand not being able to do so further exposes his flaws.
…seeing how Mary’s behavior affects Georgie is much more painful to watch. Despite only having five episodes Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding established how difficult life is for firstborn Cooper.
Mary’s relationship with Missy has always been strained and became much more difficult after George’s death. The pair barely have any interactions in Georgie and Mandy’s first weddingeven when they finally share the screen on “Thanksgiving.” That said, based on Missy’s comments, there doesn’t appear to be any improvement in this regard. Beyond that, though, seeing how Mary’s behavior affects Georgie is much more painful to watch. Despite only having five episodes Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding established how difficult life is for firstborn Cooper.
Mary is a grieving wife, but she is also a mother in Georgie and Mandy’s first marriage
Georgie and Missy need their mother
Understandably, it’s hard to lose a husband like Maria. However, she is not the only one who has to deal with grief at this difficult time. Sheldon is away, but both Georgie and Missy need her as a mother. At this point, it appears that Cooper’s remaining children have lost her as well. When the boy genius was still in Texas, Mary devoted most of her time and effort to him, essentially ignoring her other children. One would think that now is the time to make up for that.
Both George and Missy found ways to cope with the situation Young Sheldon about her mother’s obvious prejudice. After the Cooper family’s tragedy with George’s sudden death, they not only have to deal with their own difficulties, but also care for their mother. It’s an unfair request, considering Georgie’s other responsibilities – something that Georgie and Mandy’s first wedding highlighted, and Missy’s age. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Mary will realize her shortcomings with them anytime soon.
How Mary’s behavior could impact Georgie and Mandy’s marriage
Georgie is already struggling to care for her new and old family
Knowing full well how important it is for Georgie to bring the Cooper family together during the first Thanksgiving after George’s death, Mandy steps forward and convinces each family member to join the McAllisters for the holiday dinner. It’s a sweet gesture and highlights how far the couple’s relationship has progressed since their initial fling in Young Sheldon. Unfortunately, due to the established The Big Bang Theory continuity, Georgie and Mandy have no choice but to separate.
At this point, it’s unclear what causes the separation, but considering Georgie’s responsibility to her biological family, it’s likely that this somehow plays into the separation. Unfortunately, Maria will continue with this type of behavior, as confirmed by her eldest son’s emotional confession in The Big Bang Theory. Mandy may be supportive now, but with her increasing responsibilities as Cece grows up, it’s safe to say that caring for her husband’s mother will result in some conflicts in her life.
