In a sudden symbiote-enhanced frenzy, Wolverine’s son displays a surprising new power in the preview of Poison War: Deadpool #3 – written by Cullen Bunn with art by Roi Mercado, colorist Dono Sanchez-Almara and letterer VC’s Joe Sabino.
When fighting a Deadpool linked to the Carnage clone, Poison uses his long symbiote tongue as a seventh claw to stab Wade Wilson in the face. The shocking move is a strange amalgamation of two Marvel icons.
Wolverine and symbiote’s powers combine to create the strangest version of his claws yet
Although Wolverine has many children throughout the Marvel multiverse, Jimmy and his venomous symbiote became a unique and monstrous mix of the mutant hero and his alien symbiote physiology after infection. Jimmy is the son of Wolverine from the former Marvel Ultimate universe, later moving to Earth-616 and bonding with the Venom symbiote during the Venomverse saga. As the publisher’s resident mix of Wolverine and Venom, Jimmy’s new persona as Poison is released into the world in bold new ways as a result of Poison War and the zombie invasion. After becoming enraged, Poison is unleashed in an extreme display of power.
Transforming into a giant symbiote monster version of Wolverine with massive claws, Poison is already a formidable force without using any new tricks as she turns on her fellow monsters, zombies and citizens and picks a fight with the new combined form of Princess and Deadpool . However, the tongue stabbing maneuver used with his newly revealed prehensile claw is a strange and fierce fighting move that catches Deadpool completely off guard. Poison’s seventh claw delivers the absolute pain and cruel violence of a knife attack, while also being terrifying and intimate, sure to make any of its victims’ skin crawl.
Why Poison Tongue Claw Is a Perfectly Wild Addition to Deadpool’s Venom War Bond
Poison’s twisted new secret weapon is a pretty disturbing addition to the character’s abilities, but the tongue claw works while he faces off against a comedy character like Deadpool. The mortifying mouth-to-face attack is hilarious when used in the preview and fits perfectly when prankster antihero Wade Wilson returns to the world of monsters in the Poison War crossover event. Since Deadpool makes a joke about just accepting a similar stabbing from eight of his enemies, and hopes to spark a social media debate about it, this helps the invasive language remain funny rather than downright gross.
How the Poison War comes to an end, the big symbiote event may be the last time many of its heroes, villains, and everything in between will have any real time to shine. As Jimmy almost kills the daughter of Deadpool’s Carnage clone, Princess, and he subsequently promises to get full John Wick in him and his poisonous symbiote, the Earth-1610 refuge may not make it out of the crossroads alive. Still, as the son of the alternate world of Wolverine terrifies the Marvel Universe, his terrifying tongue claw is a groundbreaking and inventive twist on Poison and his father’s powers.
