Warning: Contains spoilers for Wolverine: Deep Cut #2! Wolverine Has a number of powerful abilities that make him the iconic hero (and expert killer) that fans know him as today. However, one of these abilities has always been more of a hindrance than an asset when it comes to offensive attacks and maneuverability. At least, until now, as Wolverine finally mastered the one power he always had, but never used to his advantage.
in Wolverine: Deep Cat #2 by Chris Claremont and Edgar Salazar, Wolverine is infiltrating one of Mr. Sister’s secret bases, as he means to destroy the cloning operation that Nathaniel Essex is running. In the previous issue, Wolverine was alerted to Sinister’s cloning schemes after fighting and killing Sabretooth (who was actually a clone). Therefore, he decides that he will destroy the entire operation, but to do so, he first needs to take down the Sister’s personal strike team of killer mutants: the Marauders.
After the death of ‘Sabretooth’, the only remaining Marauders are Riptide, Arclight, Prism, Greycrow, Harpoon, Vertigo, Scrambler, and Blockbuster – and every one of them guarded Sinister’s cloning base. While the mutants presented Wolverine with a unique challenge, it certainly wasn’t one that Logan couldn’t overcome. And it wasn’t his healing factor or his claws that arguably played the biggest part in Wolverine’s eventual victory, but his previously underutilized ‘power’ that he just learned to use to his advantage: the weight of his adamantium skeleton.

The weight of Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton has always been a weakness – until now
Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton is not only the reason his claws are much more useful/deadly than if they were just bone, but it also offered Wolverine major protection in battle, as his bones could not be broken, which allowed his healing factor to work Far. More quickly after taking damage. However, the downside is that his skeleton made him incredibly heavy. Since the procedure, Wolverine is much slower in a fight, and every time he is in water, he is at a major disadvantage. But now, Wolverine has found a way to make the balance work for him.
While fighting the Marauders, Wolverine uses the weight of his skeleton to block one of Blockbuster’s powerful punches with one hand, which is something the villain didn’t expect just by looking at him. Then, the extra weight Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton offered him also prevented him from being thrown by Riptide, giving Wolverine the opportunity to deliver a killing blow when the villain was caught off-guard by their powers having no effect.
Wolverine weaponizing his weakness still doesn’t save him from 1 potential fate
Wolverine may have mastered the art of using the extra weight of his adamantium skeleton to his advantage during a fight, but unfortunately, that still doesn’t save him from one potential fate: drowning. Drowning is one of the few ways to kill Wolverine, as his healing factor cannot do anything to make up for his lack of oxygen intake. And with the extra weight of the adamantium in his body, Wolverine is at greater risk of drowning when in water, and no amount of training can make up for this weakness.
Despite the lingering threat of drowning that his adamantium skeleton puts him in greater danger of, Wolverine Proves by taking down the Marids that he has gained full control over the ‘power’, and it’s about time, because he’s always had it, but never found a way to use it to his advantage – until now.
