The long awaited Wizards of Waverly Place restart program Wizards Beyond Waverly Place finally released episode 10, ending part 1 of the show’s first season. Based on Alex and Justin Russo’s ages, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place takes place about 15 years later Wizards of Waverly Place. Different Wizards of Waverly Placewhich was mainly about the Russo brothers’ middle sister, Alex Russo, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place centers on Justin Russo and his family, which includes his wife, Giada, and his sons, Roman and Milo.
Billie, a young witch who got into some trouble at school, is also taken under Justin’s wing, joining the Russo family and receiving witchcraft training. Episode 10 explores these dynamics in even more detail, including introducing new characters. Due to Wizards Beyond Waverly Place episode release schedule, many expected episode 10 to release on Disney+ on November 23, 2024. Although episode 10 is not yet available on Disney+premiered on Disney Channel and can be watched at disneynow.com. Here’s everything episode 10 revealed.
Billie’s witch best friend Nerissa comes to visit
Nerissa and Billie were known as the “Queens of Chaos” at WizTech
An entirely new character, Nerissa, was introduced in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place episode 10. Billie began explaining to her mortal friend, Winter, how Nerissa was the nicest person she had ever met. At that moment, Nerissa calls Billie and reveals that she cast a spell to know whenever someone talks about her. Nerissa appears seamlessly moments later, effectively getting off the phone.
It becomes clear throughout the episode that while Nerissa and Billie were genuinely good friends at WizTech, their personalities no longer mesh. Billie has become much more of a rule follower since joining the Russo family (although she still finds trouble in hilarious ways throughout the show), and Nerissa is disappointed, feeling as if her friend has been changed by the “boring” mortal world. . While it’s not as black and white as Nerissa being a bad influence on Billie, because Billie was once the same way, their differences become increasingly obvious.
Bella Bianchi promises to discover Milo’s secret
Milo’s nemesis Bella could now be one of the Russians’ biggest threats
Bella Bianchi had already established herself among Wizards Beyond Waverly Place characters, but she became a potentially much more serious risk to the Russo family in episode 10. In the episode, Milo is trying, but unfortunately failing, to grow a sunflower, which is needed for school. Bella video calls Milo to show him his sunflower, revealing that hers is blooming while Milo’s is completely dry and dead. This leads Milo down a dangerous path of tampering with his sunflower through magic.
Although Bella doesn’t know that Milo uses magic nor that he comes from a family of wizards, she is immediately suspicious of his sudden ability to grow a huge sunflower. She vows in front of Milo, Justin and Giada to find out Milo’s secret. While she probably means some kind of betrayal, like buying a sunflower (which Milo asked Justin to do for him, even though Justin said no), if Bella actually starts investigating the Russos, she might discover their secret. This means that a character who started out as an annoyance to Milo could now be a very real threat.
A character who started out as an annoyance to Milo could now be a very real threat.
Milo swaps bodies with a garden gnome
Nerissa helps Milo with his sunflower… but it doesn’t go well
Nerissa notices that Milo is struggling to complete his sunflower task, so she hands him a gnome, without explaining what the gnome will do other than help him with his flower. After asking no further questions, Milo takes the gnome outside and begins talking to him. The gnome assures Milo that he can grow the perfect sunflower, but Milo must agree to do something for him in return. Again, without asking any follow-up questions, Milo agrees.
Although the gnome fulfills his promise and grows a huge and impressive sunflower, he reveals that his end of the bargain requires Milo to switch bodies with him, freeing him from his “ceramic prison”. In the end, Milo manages to find his parents in the garage and tells them everything that happened. With very little resistance from the gnome, their bodies are finally switched back. However, it is precisely at this moment that Bella enters the scene, once again questioning how much she can learn about the Russo family’s huge secret.
Roman meets an elf named Iggy
Iggy and Roman are very reminiscent of Justin’s relationship with Waverly Place’s best wizards
To prove she’s still cool, Billie throws a party for wizards and other magical beings at the Russo house. Although Roman, Justin’s by-the-book eldest son, is initially horrified by this, when he sets eyes on Iggy, a pixie who attended the party, he changes his mind. He is immediately smitten with Iggy, forgetting his own name and asking if she is an angel. This is the first significant crush on the show, and This connection between Roman and Iggy is very reminiscent of the most popular relationship Justin had in Wizards of Waverly Placewith Juliet Van Heusen.
Not only does Iggy share quite a bit of resemblance to Juliet, but the dynamic between Roman and Iggy is surprisingly similar to that of Justin and Juliet. Just like Justin and Juliet, who were wizards and vampires respectively, Roman and Iggy have distinct identities. It remains to be seen whether Justin’s children have magical powers, which leaves the question of whether Roman is a wizard up in the air, but at least Iggy is unique because she is a pixie. Additionally, Roman shares Justin’s nervous and somewhat dorky energy, and Iggy matches Juliet’s witty nature.
Winter and Billie enter a shadow box
Billie’s mortal best friend wants to prove she’s worthy of the “Queens of Chaos”
When the party proves not to be enough to convince Nerissa that Billie is still cool—because Billie gets upset with a werewolf for destroying the Russo’s couch—Billie takes it a step further and casts a spell to open a shadow box. The shadowy box appears as a frightening door with chains and evidently contains horrors so terrifying that no one has ever remained inside it for more than five minutes. Despite this, Winter decides to enter the box, wanting to show Billie and Nerissa that she is worthy of being the Queen of Chaos with them.
Evidently it contains horrors so terrifying that no one has ever spent more than five minutes inside one.
This is all the more impressive because even wizards are hesitant to enter the box; Winter is a mere mortal. To protect her friend, Billie runs after her. In the box, the girls are not only greeted with spooky smoke and flashing lights, but they also encounter the mysterious hooded figure who was previously revealed to be after Billie. Although there are theories about who the hooded figure is, until now, his true identity remains unknown.
The masked figure is seen again – and given a name
The true identity of the hooded figure remains secret, but this type of villain has a name
In episode 9 of Wizards Beyond Waverly Placeit was revealed that a mysterious hooded figure was after Billie. Very little has been revealed so far about this villain, although they use purple magic and seem to be somehow linked to the threat to the world that Alex Russo mentioned in episode 1. In episode 10, this figure reappeared, this time in the shadow box.
Episode 10 revealed that hooded figures like this are called gravels and serve evil wizards.
In the shadow box, Winter, Billie and the hooded villain continually switch places. While this is comical, it’s clear that this individual is a very real threat to Billie, and there’s no doubt that the character will become increasingly important as the rest of the first season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is revealed. For now, though, episode 10 revealed that hooded figures like this are called gravels and serve evil wizards. This is particularly interesting as it suggests The real villain may not have been revealed yet.
Billie and Nerissa break up because Billie has changed
In the end, friends are very different
Throughout episode 10, it became increasingly evident that with everything that happened at the Russo household, Billie wasn’t the same person she was when she was friends with Nerissa at WizTech. Although it was clear that there were no hard feelings between the two girls, in the end they separated, resigned to the fact that their friendship had changed. That’s not to say they weren’t friends anymore – the door still seemed very open for them to reunite in the future – but it was obvious that things between them had changed.
In addition to being an interesting story in itself, This was also an important moment in character development for Billie as an individual. What has changed for Billie since the last time Nerissa saw her is her interest in following the rules, in adapting to a family unit, and in being thoughtful about how her actions affect those around her. While this might make her seem boring to other teens, it shows a lot of growth for the character and proves that Justin’s training has already had an impact.
Billie embraces who she is now
Billie also learned self-love during this arc
What makes this exchange between Billie and Nerissa even more meaningful and moving is what it represents for Billie’s sense of self. When she first arrived at the Russo household, she was constantly worried about being kicked out or just being seen as a troublemaker. Now, it is clear that Billie really started to feel like she was part of the Russo family and it helped her develop confidence in herself.. This was confirmed at the end of episode 10 when she sat down to play the ‘boring’ deadly board game with the whole family, clearly happy with where she was.
Episode 10 still leaves many questions open. It’s still unclear who is after Billie, why Justin gained his powers after being fired from WizTech, and whether Milo and Roman inherited their father’s magical powers. These questions will likely be addressed in future episodes of Wizards Beyond Waverly Placealthough the exact timeline for additional episodes has not yet been clarified by Disney.
