The lore and story of Willy Wonka has been expanded into Wonka, and the highly successful nature of the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory prequel has already created speculation about Wonka 2 and a possible franchise. While participating the debut of Paddington in Perudirector Paul King revealed important details about the development of Wonka 2including that “We have about half a draft.“ Despite this update, the sequel has not yet been given the green light and there is no guarantee that it will ever make it out of the development phase. However, King’s enthusiasm, as well as the original film’s box office performance, could certainly make the sequel a reality.
King also dropped some hints about what he’d like to see Wonka 2including that hell “try to do some international traveling on it.“ It’s unclear whether King meant traveling in terms of filming locations or within the story that could see Willy travel the world in search of more interesting flavors for his famous sweets. However, King was evasive, concluding by saying “That’s the only provocation I’m going to give. But I hope to get some air miles out of this one.“
