Disney’s beloved hero returned in his first sequel, Moana 2at the end of 2024, but the blockbuster series will continue in Moana 3? Starting with the film of the same name in 2016, Disney introduced the world to Moana, an early resident of the island of Motunui in ancient Polynesia. Determined to fix the plague that is affecting her land, Moana embarks on a dangerous sea voyage to return Te Fiti’s heart to its rightful owner. Along the way, she teams up with the playful demigod Maui and learns an important lesson about herself and her people.
Unsurprisingly, the musical action comedy was a smashing box office success for Disney, and rumors of a sequel began almost immediately. However, it would take nearly ten years for another film to arrive in the form of Moana 2 in late 2024. Following this, Moana went on another dangerous journey with her friend Maui to unite her people living across the ocean. While each of Moana’s adventures has been a self-contained journey, there is always room for more. Although Disney has not announced any plans to Moana 3 however, the probability is always high that it will return again.

Disney Hasn’t Announced Plans to Make a Threequel
With the first sequel set to be another big win for Disney, the company hasn’t made any announcements regarding Moana 3. However, the opportunity to cash in on the lucrative franchise is never out of the question, with Disney greenlighting a ton of film sequels like Toy Story, Frozenand Zootopia (to name just a few). This means the probability of Moana 3 it’s still quite high, though it could be another long wait before Moana and her next adventure arrive.
The franchise itself is rapidly expanding with the production of the live-action remake of Moanaand although this is separate from the animated films, it still sparks interest for more. If both Moana 2 and the live-action remake have proven to be multimillion-dollar hits for Disney, there’s every likelihood that they’ll announce not only Moana 3 but maybe a fourth or fifth film as well.

One thing that makes sequels to popular Disney films an exciting prospect is the chance to hear the great casts reunite for another adventure, and the Moana series is no exception. While it’s hard to guess who of the supporting cast would return for a possible Moana 3, there’s no doubt that the iconic duo of Maui and Moana would have to headline the trio. This means that wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be back to voice the macho demigod Maui, while Auli’i Cravalho was expected to once again play Moana.
With the duo set to return for the first sequel, Disney will be keen to ensure their performances are repeated if Moana 3 is done. While Cravalho didn’t reprise his role in the live-action film, that decision was more logistical than anything else. Contrast that point with the fact that “The Rock” was eager to play live-action Maui, and it suggests that the stars of the Moana they’re at it for the long haul.

After uniting her people and returning Te Fiti’s heart, Moana established herself as a mythical figure in her own right.
Moana and its sequel ended with a rather succinct and complete closure, and that doesn’t necessarily leave the door open for more. However, the infinite world around the title hero is perfect storytelling material, and there is no limit to the part of the universe she can explore. Moana 3. If the trio wanted to be ambitious, could refocus on Moana’s younger sister Simeaand explore how she lives in the shadow of her larger-than-life sister. Since Maui is an eternal demigod, the trickster could always team up with Simea if she wanted to embark on her own adventures in the future. However, with almost no information to work with at the moment, any details of the story of the Moana 3 it would be purely speculative. Despite this, the infinite possibilities make a threesome even more exciting.
