Sailing yacht below deck Captain Glenn Shephard damaged his reputation with some red flag moves, and this could pave the way for a new captain in the spinoff. Sailing yacht below deck Season 5 is now airing, and returning alongside Captain Glenn are First Officer Gary King and Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher. Captain Glenn, 63, is originally from Canada and has been in the yachting industry for 22 years.
BDSY and the Below Deck third spinoff in the franchise, but it was marked by controversy. Gary is back for his fourth season on the show, so viewers have gotten to know him and his antics well. Gary is known for being a womanizing playboy who has no responsibility and runs his deck team in a rude manner. What’s more, Gary has had an allegation of sexual misconduct lodged against him since the summer of 2022, when a Below Deck the makeup artist claimed that Gary touched her inappropriately. This controversy, along with Gary’s history of wrongdoing, tarnished the franchise, and Captain Glenn along with it.

What is not a good look
Captain Glenn and Gary are very close friends, with Gary even affectionately calling Glenn “Glenjamin”. They spend time together in Parsifal III outside of the show and also spend time in their normal lives. Their friendship has always been obvious (via See what happens live with Andy Cohen) and unfortunately, it’s not a good look for Captain Glenn. THE BDSY Captain publicly supported Gary on social media regarding sexual misconduct allegations when he should be taking a stand against them.
Although Captain Glenn is widely seen as endearing for his free time eating cookies and watching documentaries, his reputation suffered because of his friendship with Gary. As someone who is the face of one of Bravo’s biggest spinoffs, Captain Glenn should be more sensitive to the backlash Gary is receiving and condemn his bad behavior on and off the charter season.

What else can viewers see from Captain Glenn?
Aside from Captain Glenn’s poor judgment regarding Gary, it appears that viewers saw all they could of the Sailing yacht below deck Captain. Captain Glenn doesn’t have the same charisma that Captain Lee Rosbach had and that Captain Jason Chambers, Captain Kerry Titheradge, and Captain Sandy Yawn have. Viewers know what to expect from Captain Glenn and no surprises from him he should be replaced in the franchise. His lackadaisical management style is not effective and has led to many mistakes in charter seasons.
A more multifaceted captain with a stronger personality would be a better fit for the Bravo spinoff.
Will BDSY have a new captain?
There is no talk about this happening
While Sailing yacht below deck would benefit if a new captain replaced Captain Glenn, there are no signs of that happening. Captain Glenn’s reputation may be sour at this point, mainly due to his friendship and support for Gary, but it’s unlikely he will be removed in favor of a new captain. Sailing yacht below deck will certainly get the green light for many seasons, and as long as Captain Glenn wants the role, Bravo will likely give it to him.
