With the success of Evilthe next Evil: forever has a big challenge after the best scenes in the first film. Since its launch on November 22, 2024, Evil continued to defy gravity, continually breaking box office records along the way. Evil It also scored well with critics, likely securing some nominations for the next Oscars. Evil is a success on all accounts, which bodes well for Bad: forever.
Much to the annoyance of some who didn't pay attention to the marketing, Evil in fact it ended up being just the first part of a two-part film, with Perverse Part 2 set to be released on November 21, 2025, once again taking advantage of the pre-Thanksgiving period. The sequel will obviously cover the second half of the story, picking up right after Evilthe emotional ending, setting the stage for a big finale. Yet, Perverse Part 2 has a big challenge to overcome when it launches.
Wicked Part 1's two best scenes are the most predictable
You probably already knew these would be the best parts of the film
Going to Evil, two of the most anticipated moments also ended up being the best; the musical numbers, "Popular" and "Defying Gravity". Both songs were megahits for the Broadway show, consistently being considered by far the most popular songs. The first half of Evil needed to get these two scenes right, and it did so with flying colors, making the song sequences some of the best moments.
Cynthia Erivo surprised everyone with her performance of the song, closing Evil on the film's highest note going into the sequel.
“Popular” is a Glinda classic, and Ariana Grande does it justice, showcasing her immense talent as an actress and singer. His decision to seemingly selflessly reinvent Elphaba is actually one of the best scenes in the entire film. Of course, "Defying Gravity" is what can be considered the quintessence Evil music, seeing Elphaba embrace who she is. Cynthia Erivo surprised everyone with her performance of the song, closing Evil on the film's highest note going into the sequel.
Wicked Part 2's lack of a large song number is its biggest problem
There is nothing “popular” or “gravity-defying” left
Given that Evil is one of the most popular Broadway musicals of all time, one of its biggest draws is obviously the stellar musical numbers. The biggest problem, though, is that most of the show's best songs are in the first half, which is true of the first film. "Popular" and "Defying Gravity" are unlikely to be matched by anything that comes next Evil: foreverwhich already seems like the biggest challenge of the sequence.
Evil: forever it just doesn't have that big of a musical numbers to count on, which can make the final part of the duology feel a little lacking in energy compared to what came before. There are more plot twists and undoubtedly even more emotional moments, but the songs are the easiest part of the marketing, and unless we see a move to repeat "Defying Gravity" (which isn't out of the question), I I can't see any of the new music that comes close. Massive songs are arguably the biggest attraction in musicals, which means Evil: forever has a lot of work to do before its release.
