Wicked 2's New Title Confirms Sequel's Perfect Gravity-Defying Replacement

Evil was one of the most successful films of 2024, telling the story of Glinda, the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West, when they were known simply as Galinda and Elphaba. The film is based on the Broadway musical of the same name, which was loosely adapted from a 1995 book by Gregory Maguire, inspired by the original Wizard of Oz novel and film. Evil It has received rave reviews since its release, with much praise directed towards the film's excellent songs.

“For Good” is the final goodbye between Elphaba and Glindawhen they make peace with each other and their choices, and part for the last time. Obviously, being the big emotional climax of the musical between the two protagonists makes “For Good” one of the most important parts of the story. However, it is often overshadowed by “Defying Gravity”, with its emotional significance for Elphaba, not to mention that it is simply a great songwriting. However, “For Good” arguably has a more emotional significance to the story and its characters.

Evil: forever is scheduled to be released on November 21, 2025, almost exactly one year later Evil.

“For Good” appears in the musical when Elphaba is at her lowest, having lost Nessarose after the events of The Wizard of Ozfirst act and getting mad at Glinda for giving her shoes to Dorothy. The song is the culmination of everything these characters have been through, and through this final goodbye, they are able to find closure in their relationship with each other, finally achieving true peace. While “Defying Gravity” is great for showing Elphaba's transition from part 1 to part 2 of the Evil“For Good” is the emotional end point of the entire story.
