Why Wicked Movie Cut a Boq and Fiyero Scene Explained by Director Jon M. Chu

Evil director Jon M. Chu explains why a scene with a shirtless Boq (Ethan Slater) and Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) was cut. Although Evil is divided into two parts, and the length of the first film is almost equal to the length of the entire Broadway musicalCertain scenes still had to be cut from the film adaptation. This is largely due to the differences in pacing between a film and a stage musical. However, many of the film's deleted scenes will be available to watch via bonus content when it becomes available to purchase digitally on December 31st.

When speaking with Collider, Chu addressed Evil Actor Bowen Yang's comments on a shirtless Boq and Fiyero scene being cut and confirmed it was filmed. Chu revealed that both characters "looked great" and described the scene as "fun" but explained that it was cut because it didn't fit the tone of the film. He teased that it may eventually be included in the film's home release, although it is not included in the digital release's confirmed bonus content. Check out Chu's comments below:

Yes, it exists. I will confirm. And he's great, and Boq is great. It's very funny and hilarious, but it just didn't fit the tone of our film at one point. But maybe eventually someone will see it. Maybe we can get this on home video just in time.

What does this mean for the wicked

The scene had its merits, but cutting it was probably for the best.

With Bailey's attractiveness being a significant part of the discourse surrounding EvilThere will be disappointment after it was confirmed that a shirtless scene of Fiyero was cut. The scene could have also helped flesh out Boq, including his friendship with Fiyero. When Boq introduces himself to Fiyero shortly before the start of "Dancing Through Life", Fiyero takes an interest in Boq and does not ignore him like Glinda (Ariana Grande-Butera) and other characters do. While the scene could have revealed more about Boq and his friendship with Fiyeroit was probably the right decision to cut it.

Even though it probably didn't go beyond the characters being shirtless, it definitely It would have made the film a little less family-friendly and took too much focus away from the central story of Elphaba and Glinda's relationship. Part of the reason EvilBox office numbers have been so high that the film has been a hit with audiences of all ages and is a faithful adaptation of the Broadway musical. None of these strengths are related to Fiyero and Boq's cut scene.

The scene has yet to be released.

I understand why Fiyero and Boq's scene was cut, but I still hope it will eventually be released. Fiyero treating Boq differently than Glinda treats him is an effective way of highlighting the differences in the two popular characters' values. The cut scene could highlight these differences even more and allow the audience to better understand where Fiyero and Boq's character arcs are going in Evil: foreverthe story. Evil It's still a phenomenal film without the Fiyero and Boq scene, but the scene is still worth seeing.
