Jim’s death was therefore a great surprise in Ofseason 3 finale. He wasn’t the first significant character killed off this season, with Tian-Chen, Tillie, and Dale’s deaths preceding him during Season 3, but his will have the biggest impact on the story. Jim leaves behind his wife and two children, with her death occurred almost immediately after the discovery that Tabitha and Jade are actually Miranda and Christopherand one of the children “Anghkooey” is their daughter. The monstrous man then reminds Jim of his earlier warning: “Your wife shouldn’t have dug that hole,” before fatally slicing Jim’s throat. A horrified Julie watches and screams as her father dies, despite her previous line being “when this happens,” suggests that she already knew Jim’s death was coming. After Of season three confirmed time travel when Julie returned to the dungeons, the Julie seen in Jim’s death scene is implied to be from the future. He apparently has greater powers than other monsters, perhaps being their leader.
It is still unclear who exactly OfThe monster in the yellow suit is. Jim’s death allows Tabitha and Jade to explore their tragic past starting in season 4
From season 4 onwards, there is more freedom to explore Tabitha and Jade’s pairing
In terms of story, it makes sense to OfThe season 3 finale to kill Jim. Tabitha and Jim were already growing apartand this would only get worse after the revelation about his real purpose and history in Ofcity. Now that Tabitha and Jade know they are reincarnated versions of Miranda and Christopher, Of Season 4 will need to combine them even more than they already were during Season 3.
If Jim still existed, he would have served as an obstacle to Tabitha dedicating her time and emotions to further exploring her past. Of season 4. Tabitha and Jade will struggle with the fact that one of Of“Anghkooey’s” children are technically their daughter, and it’s something Jim wouldn’t be able to understand and would likely cause her to push him away. Jim’s death raises the stakes in Season 4 and beyond
No character is protected from the future
Not to mention, Jim Matthews’ death raises the stakes substantially before Of season 4. There was talk about how Of may be playing it safe by avoiding deaths in the main cast, and how these characters may have a lot of plot armor to die for. However, Jim’s death proves otherwise. Now that Jim has been killed by the monsters, Of is proving that no one is safe. Not Boyd, not Tabitha, not Julie, not Victor. Everyone is fair game in this deadly city, and the stakes have never been higher now that the origins of the OfThe monsters have been revealed.

Julie being a “history walker” who can travel through time suggests that she will continue to search for a way to undo Jim’s death, giving her a more tragic motivation to learn to manipulate the “history”And non-linear passage of time. Ethan will be more motivated to discover his role in this story, and Tabitha will have another reason to seek revenge. Ofthey are monsters.
