Why Showtime Anytime Shut Down (and Where to Access Its Content Library)

Showtime anytime was a Showtime TV network app that has been shut down, but its content library is still easily accessible. On October 27, 2010, the then-unmerged Showtime TV network announced its own app and website, Showtime Anytime, which featured nearly 400 hours of Showtime streaming content for Showtime TV subscribers (via TheFutonCritic). With Showtime’s large library of original programs, having access to the service’s programs wherever a customer went, on a television or smart device, was invaluable.

Subscribers would go to ShowtimeAnytime. with or use your TV operator’s “TV Everywhere” portal (a service that has been discontinued by most broadcasters). On October 3, 2011, Showtime offered the Showtime Anytime app for download to smartphone users (via Engagement). Along with original programming, Showtime Anytime also included feature films, comedy specials, documentaries and sports programming. However, Showtime Anytime is no longer available for download and the ShowtimeAnytime. with leads to a dead end.

CBS and Viacom merged into Paramount Global

In December 2023, it was suddenly announced that Showtime Anytime had been shut down (via Collider). Showtime parent Vicaom and Paramount+ parent CBS merged into ViacomCBS (now known as Paramount Global) in August 2019 (via THR). Then, in June 2023, Paramount+ and Showtime officially merged and integrated their services, meaning time was short for Showtime Anytime. Showtime is now included in the premium tier of Paramount+called Paramount+ with Showtime.

The standalone Showtime app was discontinued on April 30, 2024 (via Variety). Showtime programming was also transferred to the Paramount+ catalog. However, the Showtime brand is still used on its multiplex channels and in the marketing of Showtime original programs as Billions and Dexter. The Showtime library is now available to Paramount+ subscribers as long as they subscribe to the premium tier of content.

There are now two different options to choose from: Paramount+ Essential for $7.99/month or $59.99/year, and Paramount+ with Showtime for $12.99/month or $119.99/year. Each option also allows for a one-week free trial. Paramount+ with Showtime has several bonuses over Essential, including, of course, access to the Showtime library. With Showtime it is ad-free (except live TV), allows users to download movies and TV and stream live CBS, which includes sports and events.

Both options still give users access to the large Paramount+ librarybut for users who are missing the old days Showtime anytimeParamount+ with Showtime is the way to go.
