Notice! This article contains SPOILERS for the first season of Black Doves.Sam Young (Ben Whishaw) owed a debt to Helen Webb (Keira Knightley) in Black Doves Season 1, but Netflix's spy thriller hid the reason for this debt until mid-season. As a spy thriller, there are several questions that the cast of Black Doves sought to answer in the show's first season, such as who killed Ambassador Chen and, more importantly, Helen, who killed Jason Davies. One question that the characters didn't bother to answer, but that the show hid from the public for a long time, is why Sam owed Helen any kind of debt.
When Reed (Sarah Lancashire) first hired Sam, she said she needed someone Helen could trust and that Sam owed her. However, Black Doves didn't immediately reveal why Sam owed Helen or where their mutual trust came from, other than the fact that they were longtime friends. Considering how much trouble Sam got into to help Helen, and how much trouble awaited him once he returned to London, knowing what he owed her is pretty important. Happily, Black Doves not only explained Sam's debt to Helen, but also showed the entire event.
Helen helped save Michael and get Sam a “way out” after Hector’s men attacked him
Helen saved Sam and Michael's lives at great personal risk
The reason Sam owed Helen was because she saved his and his partner Michael's (Omari Douglas) lives.. After Sam refused to kill Hector, Newman's younger brother sent a hit squad to Sam's house, which he kept with Michael. To escape the attack, Sam called Helen, who was pregnant with his twins at the time, and she helped kill the killers and take Michael to safety. Helen also convinced Reed to clean up the bodies in and around Sam's apartment and ensure a safe exit for Sam.
Saving Sam and Michael's lives was reason enough for the debt, but Helen's decision to help her friend also cost her dearly. Although she had been training her combat skills with Sam, Helen had apparently never killed anyone before that day, and her first victim clearly took a toll on her.. Additionally, Helen was trying to leave the Black Doves and had to agree to remain part of the organization to convince Reed to clean up the bodies. Helen sacrificed so much in Sam's time of need.
Sam pays his debt to Helen in the Black Doves season 1 finale
By killing Alex and Trent Clark, Sam helped Helen in the same way she helped him
At the end of Black Doves In season one, Sam had the chance to repay Helen for saving him and Michael. After they discovered that Trent Clark (Angus Cooper) ordered the murder of Jason Davies (Andrew Koji), Helen wanted to kill him. She couldn't pull the trigger because Trent was just a young man and his mother, Alex (Tracey Ullman), threatened to ruin everyone's lives. Since Helen was unable to pull the trigger and complete her revenge for Jason's death, Sam did it alone.. Just as Helen protected Sam and Michael years before, Sam protected Helen from having to kill Trent alone.
Just as Helen had to make sacrifices to help Sam years before, Sam also had to make sacrifices to help Helen, which just goes to show how powerful their friendship in Black Doves really is.
Sam's decision to kill Trent paid his debt to Helen and reflected his original kindness in another fundamental way. The deaths of Trent and Alex Clark will not be easily forgotten or forgiven, and Sam will likely have a lot of trouble in his wake. Black Doves 2nd season. Hector Newman himself said this in Michael's apartment, which also ruined Sam's chances of rekindling his relationship with Michael. Just as Helen had to make sacrifices to help Sam years before, Sam also had to make sacrifices to help Helen, which just goes to show how powerful their friendship is. Black Doves it really is.
