Why Only 5% of Stardew Valley Players Made This Controversial Decision

Valley of the Starsthe iconic farming simulator, has a long list of achievements for players to unlock. Most achievements require basic tasks, such as befriending the townspeople, preparing a certain number of recipes, and upgrading the farmer’s tools. However, only an achievement in Valley of the Stars requires the player to abandon everything good in Pelican Valley and resort to a corporate takeover.

Using JojaMart only takes large amounts of money and turning a blind eye to the lovely forest spirits known as Juminos. Valley of the Stars quickly introduces the villainous company JojaMart to players when they start the game. Their personalized farmer sits in a crummy cubicle in some JojaMart corporate office before Grandpa leaves the farm to them. Once in Pelican City, Players must decide which side to take in the battle for the soul of a small town, and it seems few have chosen the corporate overlords.

Only 5% of players obtain the “Joja Co. Member Of The Year” achievement

A small but significant percentage

Upon arriving in Pelican Town, Players see the power of the superstore when Morris, the local JojaMart manager, shows up at Pierre’s small grocery store and gives everyone coupons that Pierre could never dream of competing with. From this point on, players can purchase their seeds and supplies at Pierre’s or JojaMart. Most of the time, it’s more convenient for players to use Pierre’s shop (except on Wednesdays), so The choice to use JojaMart is highly deliberate.

Of the hundreds of thousands of Valley of the Stars players in Steam, only a measly five percent unlocked the “Joja Co. Member of the Year” achievement. JoJaMart’s achievement is not so low because it is particularly difficult, but because players just don’t want to unlock it. One player let the JojaMart achievement prevent him from getting all of the game’s achievements. It makes sense that a very small number of players would follow JojaMart’s path in Valley of the Stars. Although the game offers freedom of choice, it strongly encourages players to follow the path that embraces Juminos and protects nature.

Reaching the pinnacle of Joja clientele is surprisingly easy, which may be a metaphor for the comfort of a late-stage capitalist lifestyle in the modern era. To unlock the achievement, players must simply purchase all designs from the Joja Community Development Form. These are all obstacles in the game that would otherwise be resolved by finalizing packages at the Juminos Community Center. After each Joja upgrade is purchased, players will be prevented from giving to the Juminos and repairing the town’s dilapidated Community Center.

Joja’s first Community Development Form project is repairing the minecart system between Pelican Town, the bus stop, and the mountains, which costs 15,000 gold. After that, players can remove the glowing stone at the mine entrance for 20,000 gold and repair the broken mountain bridge for 25,000 gold. It will cost 35,000 gold to repair the farm’s greenhouse, which takes a long time to unlock with the Community Center route. Joja’s final purchase is to repair the bus to the Calico Desert for 40,000 gold. Completely, It costs 135,000 gold to unlock everything using JojaMart exclusively.

Why players mainly choose to support the Juminos

Forest spirits are friends of all farmers

For obvious reasons, most players don’t go the JojaMart route when playing Valley of the Stars. Since the Farmer left the big city and his old job at JojaMart, it doesn’t make much sense to return to the corporate overlords in Pelican Town. The sterile environment of JojaMart, combined with the smiling and uncomfortable expression of the store manager, Morris, makes most players avoid the Walmart lookalike.

In fact, JojaMart is so underwhelming that it’s the only place in the entire game that doesn’t play any music. All that’s inside is bright lighting and a depressed Shane stocking the shelves alone. Supporting the literal spirits of the forest instead of JojaMart is an easy choice for most players, mainly due to the whimsical nature of the game. Valley of the Starsand most of those who have unlocked “Joja Co. Member of the Year” are probably completionists. Few players start their first farm and go the JojaMart route, but experienced players may want to see what it’s like on the other side.

Only recently did the game developer unlock all the achievements in Valley of the Starsincluding JojaMart. Even so, the number of achievements for being alongside JojaMart is still much greater than one might expect from a game known for living in harmony with nature. The five percent of players seems like a higher number when we compare other achievement statistics, as only about seven percent of players have prepared 25 different recipes and gotten married and had two children in Valley of the Stars.
