Warning: Spoilers ahead for Agatha All Along Episodes 1 and 2
In its premiere, Agatha all along introduces Joe Locke’s mystery Marvel character, but there’s something strange about him – he can’t seem to reveal his name or anything about his backstory to Agatha Harkness (Cathryn Hahn) or the audience. Since Locke joined the cast of Agatha all alongThere has been rampant speculation about what character he might be playing, and whether the character might have a connection to Scarlet Witch. However, Marvel has kept mum on the subject, referring to Locke’s character simply as “Tin.”
That mystery carries over into the first episodes of Agatha all alongWhich sees Locke’s teen try to introduce himself to Agatha, only for the visual effects of a string sewing his mouth shut to appear and his voice to be drowned out. Later in episode 2, Agatha asks him about himself, but when he starts to tell her, his voice fades out. She snaps her fingers and turns on the radio, realizing that her hearing is not affected. It is that Tin’s identity and details about him are hidden. So what’s going on?
Joe Locke’s character is under a spell hiding his identity
All indicators point to Locke’s character being under some kind of spell, one he is unaware of. When his mouth is covered and his voice is muffled, he doesn’t seem to be aware – he doesn’t react or give any indication that he knows Agatha can’t hear him. further, The appearance of the string sewing his mouth shut and the way his voice turns into white noise while no other sounds are affected indicate that magic is being used. These kinds of things don’t happen naturally, even in the MCU. All evidence points to magic, which means it is some kind of spell.
Why Tin’s identity is hidden
What is not revealed in Agatha all along The first two episodes is why the identity of Locke’s character is hidden, but it sets up a mystery for the first season to explore. like WandaVision, Agatha all along Has a mystery box element for viewers to puzzle over, and in this case it’s what Tin really is in the MCU. It is possible that his identity will be important to the plot of the show laterOr to Agatha and her storyline in the series. However, the implications and why Tin’s identity was hidden could not be revealed until after the show unveiled his name.
Who puts the spell on tin?
There are a few possibilities
The next part of the mystery surrounding Tin’s identity is who put the spell on him to hide his name. It might be safe to assume it wasn’t Agatha, but magic is a tricky thing. It is possible that Agatha cast the spell on Tin and then wiped her own memory. WandaVision Scarlet Witch was shown doing something similar when she created the witches’ hex around Westview. So Agatha may have known who he was at one point, but decided to hide him from herself for some reason yet to be revealed.
Or, the spell on Locke’s character could have been cast by another witch, probably someone trying to protect him. Based on what we know of how Agatha is perceived by the greater witch world, she is dangerous. It stands to reason that If Tin’s identity could compromise him in some way, someone close to him would want to protect him by hiding it. For example, his mother perhaps? (More on that in a moment.)
The only suspect we can seemingly eliminate from the list is Tin himself. Since he is not aware of the language, it is unlikely that he was the one who originated it.. Of course, he could be wrong to be ignorant. After all, Agatha spent much of WandaVision She thought she was just another neighbor to Wanda, when in fact she knew the witch the whole time. Perhaps Tin is Agatha’s own stupid friend, and he protects himself from her on his own. Whoever was responsible for casting the spell, they will no doubt be revealed as Agatha all along Unravels the mystery of Tin’s identity.
Our look at what Marvel character Joe Locke is actually playing
Tin’s true identity may explain why he was spelled and who did it
Since Locke was thrown in Agatha all along, The prevailing theory was that he was playing an older version of Scarlet Witch’s son Billy, aka Wiccan in Marvel Comics. There is some evidence to support this theory, especially that Locke’s Teen is a magic-wielding character that bears a resemblance to Billy Kaplan’s comics design. Additionally, Wiccan and Teen are both gay, as established in the comics and Agatha all along Episode 2. All signs seem to point to Locke playing Wiccan, but this has yet to be confirmed in Agatha all along.
Still, it makes sense. And if Tin is Billy, there’s a reason Scarlet Witch casts the spell to protect his identity. After all, Agatha met both of Wanda’s sons during WandaVisionThat she might recognize his name. Even if his last name was different, as it is in the comics, the same first name would be enough to trigger Agatha’s memories and make her suspicious of him. It would make sense that if Scarlet Witch was Billy’s mother, she would want to protect him from Agatha by hiding his identity from her.
Of course, this opens up a lot of other questions, including how Billy is alive and in the MCU when he’s not supposed to exist in the main Marvel universe, and when Scarlet Witch could have spelled him since she’s dead. Theories have posited that Locke’s character is a version of Billy from another universe, and he follows the Witches’ Road as a way to bring back Scarlet Witch. But until now, Agatha all along did not reveal that this was the case. So, we will have to wait and see who Tin turns out to be and who casts the spell to hide his identity in Agatha all along.
