Notice! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 5.Star Wars: Skeleton Crew gradually built up the mystery of Attin, and the last episode finally revealed his big secret. The first Skeleton Crew episodes quickly established that Attin had become a legend after being cut from the Star Wars galaxy, but all the pirates heard the story of the planet's treasure. This created a fascinating quest for the heroes to discover Attin's secret and find their way home.
Unfortunately, the revelation of Attin's treasure caused Jod Na Nawood to succumb to greed and betray his crew, which was especially tragic after the bond he formed with Wim earlier in the episode. Jod and any other ruthless pirates who learn about Attin's treasure will now be motivated to not only find the treasure planet, but also to conquer its people. It may also reveal more about the galaxy during the Old Republic era in Star Wars canon.
Attin is the last mint of the Old Republic
A planet to print new credits
When Jod and his crew discover the last recording of pirate Captain Tak Rennod, they discover that Attin is the last remaining Old Republic Mint. Fern explains that the bullets are used to print money, which means anyone who finds Attin will have an unlimited supply of Old Republic credits. Overwhelmed by greed, Jod betrays the crew and takes Fern's place as captain, forcing them to escape through a trap door.
In Attin, the fact that it is an Old Republic Mint explains why credits are so plentiful among its population, and printing more is presumably the "great work" they talk.
In Attin, the fact that it is an Old Republic Mint explains why credits are so plentiful among its population, and printing more is presumably the "great job" they talk. However, because the planet is isolated and most people think it is a myth, pirates could easily take control of Attin and have an unlimited supply of money all to themselves. The children now have to find their way home without help if they want to save their families.
Were all the “jewels of the old republic” bullets?
This would explain why they were targeted
Considering how Attin and its sister planets were called the “Jewels of the Old Republic,” it is safe to assume that these worlds were also Mints of the Old Republic. This would explain why Attin is the only planet left, as the other jewels were probably targeted by pirates and scoundrels who wanted an unlimited supply of money. This would give the people of Attin a lot of motivation to hide and forbid travel to other worlds.
Skeleton Crew episode 5 provides answers, but also raises more questions that can be explored in the future Star Wars stories. The Jewels are a window into what the Old Republic was like at the height of its powerwhile Captain Rennod's dark and distorted image suggests a dark and intriguing story. Maybe there is more Star Wars mysteries left to be revealed in Star Wars: Skeleton Crewthree episodes left.
