Who are the Coinless Ones? Explaining the apocalyptic Power Rangers team in the Alternate Universe

One important “What if?” created a completely new moment Power Rangers The universe in canon. Before the multiverse became a popular phenomenon, Power Rangers franchise explored this concept in BOOM! Studio comic series. The starting point for this research was the classic phrase “What if?” scenario: What if Tommy Oliver remains evil?

The answer to this question creates a world without coins, which readers first see in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers No. 9 Kyle Higgins, Hendry Prasetia, Matt Herms and Ed Dukeshire. After destroying the Epic Black Dragon Zord, an explosion occurred. sends Billy Cranston and Tommy Oliver to an alternate dimensionled by the dictator and creator of the Black Dragon, Lord Drakkon, also known as the evil Tommy from an alternate future timeline.

Tommy’s introduction to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers resulted in him being brainwashed into joining Rita Repulsa upon arriving in Angel Grove, becoming her Green Ranger. At the end of the five-part episode “Green with Evil”, the Rangers broke Rita’s spell and a reformed Tommy joined the team. However, as classical multiverse theories dictate, every possible solution has its own alternative reality. Tommy takes complete dictatorship over the planet, renaming himself Lord Drakkon, the franchise’s best villain.

In the World Without Coins, having regained his free will, a confused Tommy runs back to the Moon Palace, where he decides to swear complete allegiance to Rita Repulsa. Together, they conquer the world, and nations fall at their feet. The beginning of the end comes when Tommy and his army storm the Command Center, killing Zordon and Red Ranger Jason (though he was later re-told that he had been held captive for years rather than killed). After killing Rita, Tommy assumes complete dictatorship over the planet, renaming himself Lord Drakkon, the franchise’s best villain.

Surviving Resistance Rangers

Drakkon defeats the Rangers while Zordon attempts to transform Jason into the White Ranger, but the process is interrupted. Tommy takes his strength creating the Lord Drakkon costume for which he is famous. He doesn’t stop there, eliminating the Rangers one by one, taking their powers and power coins and storing their energy to create an army of Sentinel minions loyal to his cause. Billy dies in the midst of Drakkon’s final attack.

The remaining Rangers and those who resisted Drakkon’s forces join create a resistance group called The Coinless. Those still alive include Trini Kwan, Zac Taylor and Kimberly Ann Hart. Of course, Drakkon neutralizes the former Pink Ranger by using the chaos magic he learned from Rita to control Kimberly’s mind, turning her into his Ranger Killer and right-hand man. Bulk and Skull are also members, with Skull going undercover as one of Drakkon’s Red Sentinels.

Connected

The coinless system helps Billy and Tommy return to their worldand then again when Lord Drakkon targets every Ranger in the multiverse. The adult version of Kimberly gains free will from Drakkon and decides to become a hero of her own kind, one who assembles the ultimate Power Rangers dream team in the Solar Rangers. When Drakkon is defeated by the Mighty Morphin Rangers and is trapped inside a broken pocket world within the Morphin Grid, the Coinless World is left without its dictator.

The Absence and Return of Drakkon

One-shots and miniseries set after Drakkon’s defeat in Destroyed grid arc demonstrates what the Coinless Ones do in a world without Drakkons. Ranger Killer Oneshot #1 by Ryan Parrott, Dan Mora, Raul Angulo and Dukeshire the first story about exploring this world without Drakkonas his legion of followers and sentries continue to push forward his order and narrative as they have yet to receive news that their master is not returning. In his place, one of his key minions—the iconic villain known as Scorpina—claims herself to be the next in charge, reinventing herself as Commander Scorpina.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, evil always lurks around every corner of this franchise.

Scorpina takes control of Drakkon’s army, and former Black Ranger Adam Pak becomes her loyal servant. Meanwhile, Kimberly reunites with the resistance just in time to join forces with them to stop the returning Rita Repulsa, brought back to life by the well-meaning but treacherous Trini. Having received help from Scorpina to stop Rita, Scorpina agrees to let Kimberly rule Drakkon’s former empire in order to restore peace between the people of that world.. With Kimberly in charge and Scorpina and Trini as her right-hand men, it seems that the Coinless World may finally achieve peace.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, evil always lurks around every corner of this franchise. When Drakkon is no longer a problem, the remaining Coinless Ones will have to deal with the Dark Ghost’s lieutenant, Eclipta. (genderbent Ecliptor from Power Rangers in Space) under Kimberly’s new regime, introduced in the three-part film Drakkon: A New Dawn miniseries by Anthony Birch, Simone Ragazzoni, Angulo and Dukeshire. They eventually defeat Eclipta and finally free the long-dormant Jason. This also allows the Coinless Ones to temporarily restore their Ranger powers with new dark armor.

Of course, after defeating his lieutenant, Dark Ghost isn’t far behind. The Dark Ghost’s influence spreads throughout the world, growing his army of zombies along the way – even infecting the leader of the Coinless Ones, former Black Ranger Zac Taylor. Then, since time in the World of No Coins is never good, The return of the Dark Specter also marks the return of Lord Drakkon to this universe..

It is not surprising that Drakkon has enemies, but due to more important matters, all his enemies are forced to unite under Drakkon’s leadership. With the reluctant help of Bulk, Kimberly, Trini, Scorpina, and former Blue Ranger Omega Kiya, they form the Drakkon Rangers using their shared power. There is no true resolution in World Without Coins as this storyline falls apart at the end. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic series. Ultimately, World Without Coins is a great example of how Power Rangers The franchise can move into new timelines in the same compelling way as the main canon.
