History and origins of the Cult Mechanicus
A lifestyle dedicated to worshipers of the Machine God
The Adeptus Mechanicus can trace its origins more than 10,000 years before the events of Space Marine 2allying with the Empire of Man with the signing of the Treaty of Mars. With the signing of this treaty, the Mechanicus had access to the Imperium’s resources to research technology in the galaxy, while also allowing them to continue to worship their Machine God.
Normally, the Mechanicus’ religious practices would mark them as enemies of the secular Empire, but with the treaty in place, their religious focus and political autonomy were forgiven for the betterment of humanity.
The Treaty of Mars not only greatly benefited both the Imperium and Mechanicus in the long run, but it also helped avoid a long and costly war between the two powerful factions. Although the Adeptus Mechanicus are not traditional fighters, many of them can still defend themselves in combat, as seen by the various Tyranid corpses often scattered around fallen Tech-Priests. Mechanicus fighters have upgrades that increase their abilities beyond what is traditionally possible, as well as utilizing servants with floating skulls to rain fire on enemies.
Machanicus’ actions in Space Marine 2 and his reasoning
Going head to head with Titus and his Ultramarines
Although the Adeptus Mechanicus’ insatiable thirst for knowledge can cause great harm if left unchecked, his actions in Space Marine 2 they were an attempt to support the Empire’s war effort. By utilizing the Aurora Device that Nozick and Leuze spent decades researching, The Adeptus Mechanicus hoped to use his supernatural power to defeat the agents of Chaos once and for all.. The device itself is not a Chaos artifact as players were initially led to believe, but a Necron artifact whose origins date back to the tomb world of Demerium.
Although the Mechanicus Tech-Priests had good intentions, their designs were ultimately injected by the beings they sought to destroy. Despite constant warnings from Titus, who experienced the device’s power firsthand during the events of the original Space MarineAurora was activated with initial success by Leuze within the Necron tombs.
After Leuze was shot down by Malgus, it was revealed that The Chaos God Tzeentch set the story’s events in motion from the beginning, aiming to bolster the strength of his army with the ancient artifact’s power.. Living up to his title as the great deceiver, Tzeentch had probably been planning for centuries on his second attempt to harness the artifact’s power, with Space Marine 2 leaving it up to the players to stop him once again.
