A key cast member has been added to the upcoming series Ponies. Ponies is a spy thriller set in the 1970s that tells the story of two secretaries at the American embassy in Moscow who turn into CIA agents after their husbands are killed. Through tragedy, a Cold War conspiracy is uncovered. Ponies is co-written and directed by Susanna Fogel. The series is produced by Fogel and his co-writer, David Iserson, the latter of whom is also the series’ showrunner. The series will air on Peacock.
According to Varietya new cast member has just joined the cast of Ponies. This actor will be Haley Lu Richardson. In an official description released for the series, it was noted that Richardson would play a character named Twila. Twila is one of two embassy employees who later becomes a CIA agent. Her character is described as “a small town girl who is as abrasive as she is fearless.”
What does this mean for ponies?
Details of the ponies’ characters were also revealed
In addition to announcing Richardson’s casting, the report also provides details about the series’ other main character. Played by Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke, the other “ponie” (person of no interest) will be Bea, who “is a son of Soviet immigrants, overeducated and speaking Russian..” Due to the nature of the plot, it appears that Richardson and Clarke will have fairly equal roles when it comes to Ponies. The full show description can be found below:
“Two ‘Ponies’ (they say ‘people with no interest’ in intelligence) work anonymously as secretaries at the American Embassy. That is until their husbands are killed under mysterious circumstances in the USSR and they both become CIA agents. Bea (Clarke) is a highly educated, Russian-speaking daughter of Soviet immigrants. His companion, Twila (Richardson), is a small-town girl who is as abrasive as she is fearless. Together, they work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that made them widows.”
Richardson is an interesting casting for this series, as his career has been heating up in recent years. Originally known for her performance in films such as Support the girls and ColumbusRichardson made a splash on TV recently when he appeared on The White Lotus season 2. This gives him experience and recognition on television, thus helping to raise the profile of Ponies. At the same time, the Peacock show will be Richardson’s first time starring in the series, which is an excellent opportunity for the actor to expand on his strong existing career.
Our opinion on the cast of the ponies
Haley Lu Richardson is a great choice
Richardson may not be an A-list actress, but she has consistently excelled in most of her projects. She is excellent at Kogonada Columbusas well as teen films such as The limit of seventeen and Five feet away. Your cast in Ponies will give Richardson another chance to shine, offering depth to a character who has experienced great trauma (losing her husband). That kind of emotional depth has the ability to provide more layers to an action thriller plot, and it’s a quality that Richardson will certainly bring to the series.
