So far on the CBS dramedy, Olympia has gradually grown closer to Matty Matlock (played by Kathy Bates). But she doesn't know the big secret Matty is hiding.

It was made for the closing season of Breaking Badwith the penultimate episode representing darkness and the actual ending representing some kind of hope. It was also made for Buffy the Vampire Slayer 4th season, where the villain of the season was eliminated in the penultimate episode.

Applying this approach to the CBS reboot of Matlock could mean that Matty's secret and possible consequences will be the main focus of episode 17. This would give the characters in the reboot a chance to address Matty's lie and leave some room for how Olympia would react, and whether she would end up taking Matty's side due to the older woman's grief over losing her daughter, in part because of what the law firm did.
Matlock season one will return with new episodes on Thursday, January 30th at 9pm ET on CBS.
The first installment of the CBS drama has only aired eighteen episodes so far. There is still a long way to go before Matty's true identity and plan for revenge for his daughter's death are exposed. But when this happens, and when attention turns to the already renewed Matlock In season 2, the series created by Jennie Snyder Urman will have to build a new general arc.
