When and why did Furiosa turn against Immortan Joe in the Mad Max franchise (before Fury Road)

Although Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga explained how Mad Max the franchise's heroine ended up working for Immortan Joe, the prequel didn't show her turning against him. THE Mad Max the films already had a rather complicated chronology before 2024 Fury Road prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. 1979 Mad Max takes place after society has begun to collapse but before the franchise's off-screen apocalypse, the 1981 sequel The road warrior takes place after the end of the world, and 1985 Beyond the Thunderdome happens even later. Apparently 2015 Fury Road occurs last.

However, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga complicated this. The prequel begins decades after the apocalypse, when Furiosa is still a girl. Somehow, Furiosa is just a little younger than Max in Fury Road when, according to Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Mad Max, he's supposed to be about 60 years older than her. Furiosa's rivalry with Immortan Joe is still a long way off in Furiosa: The Finale of a Mad Max Saga

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga does not address Furiosa's rivalry with Immortan Joewith whom she is still allied at the end of the prequel. Miller's film makes it abundantly clear that Immortan Joe is as monstrous and amoral a warlord as he was in Fury Roadbut it's convenient for Furiosa to align herself with him to survive. When she is first captured, Furiosa is held alongside Immortan Joe's female captives and narrowly escapes. She becomes one of Immortan Joe's War Boys and rises through the ranks of his militia, forming a relationship with Praetorian Jack.

Furiosa forms an uneasy alliance with the warlord in order to survive in the Citadel.

Although Praetorian Jack dies in Furiosa: A Mad Max SagaAt the end of, Furiosa finally gets her revenge on Chis Hemsworth's Dementus when the War Boys defeat her Horde. Since Furiosa has no immediate plans to meet the Many Mothers again, and she lost the star map of her home when she was forced to cut off her arm, there is still no impetus for her to start a battle with Immortan Joe. At least temporarily, Furiosa forms an uneasy alliance with the warlord in order to survive on the Citadel. This apparently lasts until the events of Fury Road.

Characters don't age normally in Wasteland, so it's impossible to gauge how much time passes between Fury Road and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

However, even this doesn't give much of a clue, thanks to the slippery nature of aging in Mad Max universe.
