A surprising new report has thrown the future of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
in doubt. Star Wars‘ Upcoming TV Show, Skeleton Crew is set to launch on December 3. The exciting new series promises to be the perfect Christmas fare, telling the story of a bunch of children from an Earth-like planet who find themselves wandering the Star Wars Galaxy and even cross paths with a Jedi, Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood. It is generally expected to be a one-and-done limited series.
A new report from THR suggests Skeleton CrewHis future has yet to be decided. While the report acknowledges that this has only ever been described as a limited series, it adds that “Lucasfilm is considering Skeleton Crew a series (unless its ratings decide otherwise).“This is noted in a critical assessment of Lucasfilm’s television production, which shows that the upcoming slate is depleted after next year. Andr Season 2 draws to an end.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has only ever been discussed as a limited series
Could it ever be more?
Created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, Skeleton Crew was positioned as an Amblin-style coming-of-age adventure – which explains why the show is releasing around Christmas, with episodes coming out on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. It was always touted as a one-and-done limited series, though its place in the Star Wars Timeline – as part of the ever-expanding “Mandoverse” – medium Characters and concepts will likely serve as setup for future stories. Marti Matulis’ wine, a pirate of The Mandalorian Season 3, has already been confirmed to appear in Skeleton Crew.
This context potentially makes it quite difficult to re-imagine the limited series as the launchpad for something new. There are a lot of moving parts in the Mandoverse, including a blockbuster movie (The Mandalorian & Grogu) and Ahsoka Season 2. There is a danger that Skeleton Crews renewal would actually cause problems for Lucasfilm’s long-term plans.
Our take on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 2
Nothing can be ruled out… but we shouldn’t really expect Skeleton Crew season 2
The situation is somewhat of a strange one. Lucasfilm announced an ambitious slate of projects back in 2020, under pressure from then-Disney BEO Bob Chapek, and the years have not been kind to the plans. like THRs report due notes, the various Star Wars TV shows appear to have petered out, with The Mandalorian Serve as the only multi-time hit – and the launchpad for Star Wars‘Big screen return. Given this context, it’s easy to understand why Lucasfilm might be hoping to have another success story that can be brought back.
Skeleton Crew It was never envisioned as a multi-season show in the first place, however, and the core concept feels as if it’s positioned as a one-and-done. Jude Law is the only adult protagonist in the show, while child actors will have come of age since filming wrapped in January 2023. Star Wars TV show a year, likely in part to control bandwidth due to a recent commitment to three movies in 2026 and 2027; It just doesn’t feel like there’s a place for it Skeleton Crew to film before the actors age too much.
