As Gabrielle sees her regularly, perhaps she will regain his trust and affection, resulting in Camille’s reclaiming of Gabrielle’s affections and allowing him to see who has been there for him all along.
Furthermore, in a constant attempt to sideline Emily and Gabriel’s romance storyline, Emily is invited back to the chateau, where Gérard (Christophe Guybet) has a bloody yet minor accident. Regardless, Louise still urges Gabriel to visit and spend time with the family. She even lies about the extent of her husband’s condition and pushes the narrative that it was Emily’s carelessness that caused the accident.
As Camille becomes more visible in Gabrielle’s life, Louise subtly tightens Emily’s reputation, framing her daughter as the more viable option to pursue. With the mother-daughter plan seemingly successful, Gabriel once again chooses to be with Camille. This then sets up the long-awaited Emily and Alfie romance of season 3.
