The Man in Yellow telling Jim that his wife shouldn’t have dug that hole is a direct callback to Ofend of season 1. While trying to find ways to communicate with the outside world, Jim built a radio tower using an old CB radio. Although Jim received calls from “Thomas,” who took on the voice of a 10-year-old in Of Season 3, he didn’t hear that voice from Season 1 again until the end of Season 3. The Man in Yellow’s original message was in reference to Tabitha digging a hole in the basement of her home in Of end of season 1. Tabitha digging the hole led to the discovery of the truth behind the town’s monsters and tragedies
Tabitha started having visions of the children after going into the tunnels
When the CB radio man in season one told Jim that Tabitha shouldn’t dig the hole, it was clear that she was on the right track to divulge some crucial information about the true nature of the city. Of course, finding the tunnels would do just that, as that location has been involved in some of the world’s worst tragedies and supernatural occurrences. Ofhistory. Not only are the tunnels where the monsters go to sleep, but it’s also where OfThe “Anghkooey” children were sacrificed and where the monsters were created and are still reborn.

Once the origins of the monsters and the story behind the “Anghkooey” children are revealed, residents seem to have most of the knowledge needed to escape Fromville – or at least end the cycle that has apparently been occurring for centuries. Tabitha digging the hole for the tunnel revealed the truth about the “Anghkooey” children’s story and would later lead to Fatima giving birth to the Smiley Monster and confirming the creatures’ role in the children’s deaths in exchange for eternal life. As Fromville thrives on chaos and confusion, the Man in Yellow would not want this information to be disclosed.
Who is the man in yellow and why does he kill Jim?
The man in yellow appears to be the cause of Fromville’s ills
Although it is now confirmed that he was the voice of CB radio, the identity and role of the Man in Yellow is still a mystery. Instead, it is possible that the Man in Yellow was responsible for the creation Ofthe monstersperhaps being the one who convinced them to sacrifice their children in exchange for immortality.
He seems to be the driving force behind OfFromville’s evils and nightmares, and would therefore be the entity responsible for defending the “order from chaos.” The Man in Yellow may be Fromville’s secret keeper, so he will be the one to prevent too much knowledge about the town’s history from being revealed. Before the Man in Yellow kills Jim, he tells him that “knowledge has a cost”, revealing that Jim had to die because he was difficult to manipulate and knew too much on Ofcity secrets.
