To learn more about his past, Alex Cross’ best friend John Sampson also visits his mother. That’s when he discovers the truth about what happened to Ed Ramsey’s sister and how her fate ended up playing a crucial role in turning him into a ruthless serial killer.

After John Sampson visited Ed Ramsey’s mother in Cross In the first season, he discovers the truth about his past and the events that gradually turned him into a disturbed serial killer. The story of Ed Ramsey in Cross The first season reveals that he was once the only child of his single mother, which made him the center of all the attention. However, a few years later his sister was born, which divided his mother’s affection between her two children. Over time, he became increasingly jealous of his sister and even told his mother that he wanted to be her only child.
Soon after Ramsey became resentful of his younger sister, she passed away due to accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. Since the death was ruled accidental, no one was blamed for it. However, the truth is that Ramsey secretly poisoned herbelieving this would help him regain his mother’s undivided attention. Although Ramsey was never caught for killing his younger sister, this early incident from his childhood revealed his violent tendencies. But to his dismay, even though he carried out his sinister plan without suffering repercussions, Ramsey didn’t get what he wanted.

As Alex Cross later discovers, Ramsey could not handle the growing distance between him and his mother. So he even started killing birds in the neighborhood. As his violent tendencies worsened over time, he gradually began to idolize famous serial killers and turned into a Cross‘ central “Fanboy Killer”. Although Ramsey’s mother’s dementia prevents her from remembering many details of her past, she is able to remember how Ramsey’s behavior gradually worsened when John Sampson gave her some strong instructions to jog her memory.
