The hard drive has been classified as a red-level relic, meaning that not only does it predate the apocalypse that forced humanity underground, but it is also a crime of possession – which differs from Hugh Howie's. Silo source material. THE information held on the hard drive had already been viewed in Silo season 1with Rebecca Ferguson's Juliette Nichols discovering a video of a previous cleaning, which showed a falsified view of the outside world. In “Descent”, Lukas manages to delve even deeper into the secrets of the hard drive – despite its destroyed state.
Lukas Kyle found silo maps and a letter written by Salvador Quinn on the hard drive

During a brief break in his sentence in the mines, of which only one day has passed, Lukas is summoned by Bernard in “Descent” to try and recover the contents of the pulverized hard drive. Later in the episode, Lukas proves successful in at least beginning to figure out what information the device contains. Nash's character locates what appears to be a love letter written by Salvador Quinn – a character who has been referenced a few times but has never been shown on screen.
Nash's character locates what appears to be a love letter written by Salvador Quinn – a character who was referenced a few times but never appeared on screen. He was the leader of Silo 18 or at least a senior figure, and lived 140 years before the events of the show's current timeline. Salvador Quinn was most recently referenced in the previous episode, “The Harmonium,” when Tanya Moodie's Judge Meadows claimed, mid-death, that she had decoded the letter, and its contents caused her to retreat like Bernard's shadow.
Why Bernard wanted Lukas Kyle to work on the hard drive, not IT
Silo 18's mayor wants the hard drive's secrets to remain secret
Bernard openly admits that there are people more qualified than Lukas when it comes to the task at hand, but the mayor has a specific reason for choosing Nash's character. In short, it is because Bernard knows that Lukas' thirst for knowledge will make him prioritize the task and work as hard as you can on it. Furthermore, he is essentially working for his freedom, with the contract valid only as long as Bernard demands his skills. Of course, the information on the hard drive is also confidential, so Silo The 18-year-old mayor won't want it to fall into general circulation.
