Warning: HUGE spoilers ahead for the Silo season 2 premiere!Silo Season 2, Episode 1, “The Engineer,” begins with Rebecca Ferguson’s Juliette Nichols entering a structure identical to the one she once called home, and although the episode provides an explanation for what happened there, the sequence which addresses the devastation is brief. With the current issue sequences taking place immediately after the end of Silo season 1, Apple TV+’s dystopian sci-fi show continues Juliette’s story without wasting a single second. Although she may be free from the tyranny of her former superiors, her adventure is far from over.
A live-action adaptation of Hugh Howey’s novels, Apple TV+ changes several aspects of Siloliterary source material. However, the overall story remains largely the same. As the leader of Silo cast, Ferguson returns in season 2 as the main protagonist of the saga. Although she gives a great physical performance in “The Engineer”, the Silo season 2 premiere gives very little to Ferguson when it comes to dialogue. On the other hand, the opening scene of the episode does not need an artistic exposition.
Season 2 opening sequence shows what happened to the second silo
“The Engineer” begins with a flashback
The cold open of “The Engineer” is a flashback to the new Silo that was eventually revealed that Juliette will soon find and enter. The inhabitants of the second Silo appeared to be in the final stages of a revolution very similar to that which was mentioned but never shown in Silo 18 – Juliette’s former home. As with Silo 18, there appears to be fierce disagreement about whether it is safe to leave the house.
The other Silo likely acts as a sobering glimpse into what might have happened to Silo 18 if Juliette had managed to convince the others of Silo season 1 that it was a safe environment out there.
The other Silo likely acts as a sobering glimpse into what might have happened to Silo 18 if Juliette had managed to convince the others of Silo season 1 that it was a safe environment out there. Although ‘The Engineer’ never reveals how long ago the opening scene took place Within the show’s canon, the state of the remains covering the interior and exterior of the building strongly suggests that it was very far from a recent event.
Why did the citizens of the second silo leave
The Silo’s flooded lower levels likely caused the power failure
The rebel leader’s note reads: “generator will flood in 15 minutes“, then the revolution may well have started due to the panic that the Silo was about to become uninhabitable due to lack of energy. Russell, who appears to be the leader of the Mechanics, refuses to open the door to the surface. As such, the unfortunate inhabitants are stuck between a rock and some hard places. Your options are to stay in the Silo and die, massacre each other in an attempt to force a deal, or risk leaving and exposing a possible lie.
The other Silo once again acts as a cautionary tale. If Juliette hadn’t fixed Silo 18’s generator in the first season, the population of the show’s titular setting could very well have resorted to the same drastic measures as the doomed characters from the beginning of “The Engineer.” This proves how important and talented Ferguson’s character is and how foolish her superiors were to send her to the cleaners. Then again, the body of water in the other Silo was likely a major factor in the generator failure, so even Juliette may have been left defenseless.
Is the man behind the door the only survivor of the second silo?
The mysterious hermit of Shiloh may not be alone
The final moments of Silo The season 2 premiere introduces a new character, who has locked himself inside a safe, without knowing how long he has been there. Another big question is whether he is the only remaining member of his community, or whether there are other survivors elsewhere in the Silo – or even in his vault. His isolation, coupled with the aggressive threat should Juliette attempt to enter, suggests that the stranger is not particularly used to meeting new individuals and even actively avoids and tries to prevent such scenarios.
On the other hand, it could also be that SiloThe new character is not only keeping himself safe from strangers, but also protecting the other inhabitants of his vault. It is also not out of the possibility that the man is not even a survivor of the massacre in question. He could just be a stranger like Juliettebanished from his original Silo and left to roam the planet’s ruined surface. If so, it seems unlikely that they would not establish some kind of dynamic as Silo season 2 moves forward.
Based on Hugh Howey There romance series, Silo is a science fiction drama series created for Apple TV and follows an engineer named Juliette who lives in a dystopian future. With the surface poisoned and the world all but ruined, residents live in an underground silo. When the community’s sheriff breaks protocol and leads to the deaths of several residents, Juliette begins to uncover the dark truth of the silo.
