What happened to Mad Max’s MFP group after the first film

The Main Force Patrol (MFP) was a prominent group in the original Mad Maxbut essentially disappeared as the franchise continued. The MFP was a police force in the world Mad Maxand served as the main protagonists of the first film. Several important characters, such as Jim Goose (Steve Bisley), Fifi (Roger Ward) and even Max himself were members of the MFP. It was also Max’s involvement in the MFP that put him in the crosshairs of Toecutter (Hugh Keays-Byrne), led to the deaths of his wife and son, and turned him into the Road Warrior.

In fact, a former MFP officer, Jim Goose, should already have a much bigger role in the franchise. The original story of Lord Humungus in Mad Max 2 was supposed to reveal that he was actually Goose, and that his accident in the original Mad Max it badly burned his face and turned him into a warlord. This twist was cut from the film, but a later Mad Max the film could still use MFP for a similar emotional twist.

The next film in the franchise, Mad Max: The DesertIt’s still a mystery, and it’s not even clear if the project is still in development. If The desert is being made, however, it could easily include an old MFP to delve deeper into Max’s story and better connect to the original Mel Gibson films. How the Fury Road With the prequel comic confirmed, some MFP officers were still roaming the Wasteland for years, and Max could easily find one. Reintroducing an MFP character would also help make Max’s story more cohesive, especially considering Tom Hardy will likely be recast in The desert.

An MFP character would not only help make the third lead actor playing Max Rockatansky fit in better with the previous two, it would also give The desert a chance to delve into Max’s madness. So far, Max’s descent into madness has only been demonstrated in the way he interacts with outsiders, like the Pappagallo tribe in The road warrior or Furious in Fury Road. If he had the opportunity to meet someone from MFP, The desert could contrast the man Max once was with the survivor he has become. In this sense, the MFP is an interesting and unexplored resource for Mad Max.
