Landman is back with its third episode, which ends with Monty declaring his plan to “kill the well.” Billy Bob Thornton leads Landman’s cast as Tommy Norris, a crisis executive at an independent oil company whose family life becomes intertwined with numerous explosive conflicts surrounding his work. The series is created by Taylor Sheridan, producer and creator of series such as yellow stone, Mayor of Kingstownand more, who made a name for himself writing highly entertaining drama series for Paramount+.
In Landman episode 3, Tommy Norris tries to win the favor of Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace), a lawyer who comes looking for someone to blame for the crises of the first two episodes. Tommy’s ex-wife, Angela Norris (Ali Larter), also returns to him, and the two begin to rekindle their past romantic feelings. Cooper (Jacob Lofland) pays homage to his old crew’s family while searching for a new crew to teach him the ways of oil, and ends up in a dangerous situation.
What does “Kill The Well” mean and why does Monty have to do it
Monty needs to spend $2 million to decommission an old oil well
Monty may be in the middle of a crisis with Rebecca and both incidents, but he still has a job to do. One of Monty’s wells is said to be 30 years old and there isn’t much that can be done other than kill him. It produces only 12 barrels of oil per day, when it originally produced 180. the phrase “kill the well” essentially means decommissioning it, which would be expensive and would also cut off one of Monty’s profit lines. He notes that “the oil is in the dip,” looking at his screen showing stock prices.
Landman seems to portend a heart attack.
The scene may seem tangential, given that this is a relatively new subject, but there are some details to note. Monty’s wife, Cami (Demi Moore), notes that he needs to start exercising for his heart health, marking the second time in the episode that Monty’s exercise routine is mentioned. Killing the well may have bigger implications for Monty, as it’s just another small problem in a mountain of problems that is leading to his declining health. Landman seems to portend a heart attack.
Cooper’s role with his new team – and is he doomed?
Cooper will have to be careful with his work
After Cooper’s first crew died in episode 1, he expressed interest in finding a new one in episode 2. Cooper is determined to make his way in the oil industry; he wants to learn from the beginning. Unfortunately, this means putting himself in danger, as the families of those who died in the tragedy are after him. He is attacked at the beginning of the episode by two of his would-be crew members and manages to fend them off, gaining a foothold.
Cooper attends a celebration of the deceased men’s lives, where he meets Ariana (Paulina Chavez), and they hit it off. Cooper likes to make her laugh, which is immensely valuable to her as she grieves for her husband. However, on his car ride to work the next morning, one of the men who assaulted him at the beginning of the episode threatens him with a knife. Cooper will have to constantly be careful in the future and is willing to take that risk to achieve that. It probably won’t be the last time he sees Ariana.
Will Tommy get back together with his ex-wife, Angela?
Tommy and Angela are trying romance again
Angela finally makes her first appearance outside of FaceTime in Landman episode 3, where she returns to spend some time by the pool with Ainsley (Michelle Randolph). She and her daughter get drunk and pass out before heading home, which leads Ainsley to tell Tommy that she wants to be with him from now on instead of her mother. When Tommy breaks the news to Angela, she says she would like to be with him too.despite having remarried to another man. She flirts with Tommy constantly, but this is the first time she has made a serious request to him.
Although Tommy always suggested that he and Angela weren’t right for each otherhe states that he is willing to try again with her. For now, it looks like the pair have rekindled whatever spark there once was, much to Ainsley’s delight. Given that Landman is a Taylor Sheridan series, it is likely that they will soon end up seeing many of the same problems arise that they had in their first season together. As Angela states, it’s Tommy’s work life that constantly gets in the way of his romance, and Tommy’s work life is getting more intense than ever.
Landman is a drama series created and written by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace.
