Amber crystals turn white when they are purified again

Star Wars Very recently showed the process of bleeding a kyber crystal on screen, as Osha bled Master Sol’s blue crystal without even realizing she was doing it. Basically, to bleed a crystal, one must pour all their anger and hatred into a kyber crystal, typically after winning a saber from a Jedi in battle. In this case, Osha was so full of hatred for Sol after discovering he had killed her mother and framed her sister for it that she naturally turned the crystal red as she wielded his saber.

This process also requires deep empathy.

White lightsabers effectively go through the opposite processWhere the kyber crystal bled by a dark side force user is purified once again. The process is not shown on the screen in any of Star Wars Canon movies or shows, though the non-canon shows Star Wars: Visions Has shown the cleaning process. Interestingly, the process also requires deep empathy, in which the Force-user cleansing the crystal must try to understand the Force-user who initially bled the crystal.

Why Ahsoka Tano has white lightsabers

Although white lightsabers have appeared in non-canon shows and in Star Wars books, Ahsoka is easily the most prominent Jedi in the franchise who wields white lights. In fact, her white sabers have been featured in both animation and live-action. As is required of all white kyber crystals, Ahsoka received her white sabers after purifying two crystals from a dark side force userSpecifically one of the Imperial Inquisitors, the Sixth Brother.

However, beyond just the cleaning process, the white sabers have a special significance. White lightsabers are thought to represent someone who has found peace and tranquility in the Force and shows true compassion, which would certainly make sense given the process required. This is also clearly in keeping with Ahsoka Tano’s character, especially the recent updates to her Star Wars arc.
