Apple TV+ chargers Silo They play a vital role in the functioning of the underground society and have a unique advantage that is not granted to all characters. Although they do not represent a large part of the Silo cast, the role of the porters means that much of the story would be very different without their presence. In truth, large portions of the narrative would be very difficult to navigate without porters. They are a significant element in the show's world-building, so understanding how they serve the Silo is vital to enjoying the events of the dystopian sci-fi project.
Silo adapts Hugh Howie's book series, so the show has a lot of established lore to draw on. This is one of the factors that quickly contributed to helping Silo become one of the best sci-fi shows on Apple TV+. Although parts of the source material were changed to accommodate the story's move from page to screen, it remained largely intact during the adaptation process. Porters are one of the facets of Howie's work that has remained unchanged on the Apple TV+ version of the story.
Porters deliver goods and messages throughout the silo
Silo shows loaders going up and down the ladder
Silo 18 and all of its identical counterparts are equipped with limited equipment to allow for the transportation of goods and the ability to communicate between the various levels of the structure. Although certain members of official personnel have access to two-way radios and rudimentary computers, the majority of Silo's inhabitants rely heavily on the services of porterswho take written notes between citizens who cannot communicate easily. In this respect, porters are essentially postal workers, as they allow levels to maintain contact and therefore remain connected.
Porters are also vital in the process of shipping items up and down the Silo for personal and official needs. They can often be seen traversing spiral staircases at any time of the day with a special backpack that can contain various types of items. It is not uncommon for the service to also operate during the night, as the need for deliveries and communication never stops. Considering how little most Silo citizens will move around on any given day, posters will likely be the most physically fit, given the demands of the job.
What levels do porters have access to in the Silo
Porters have almost free reign in the Silo
Silos are a finite space given its underground existence, but the lives of many characters are made even shorter by the fact that they do not have access to all parts of the structure. Even if they do, the various levels and departments tend to create subgroups and fragment communities that share a sense of camaraderie based on the nature of their respective work. For example, those who work in Mechanics tend to socialize largely with other Mechanics, in part because they are not allowed or expected to stray too far from their post. However, this is not the case with chargers.
While they are generally not required to pass messages between senior Silo officials (they have the technology to do this themselves), physical items still need to be transported by porters.
A doorman's job requires him to have access to all levels of the Silo. While they are generally not required to pass messages between senior Silo officials (they have the technology to do this themselves), physical items still need to be transported by porters. That being said, they don't have full autonomy like a sheriff or raider. This is proven in Silo Season 2, episode 6, “Barricades”, when the porters are prevented from crossing the border established by Mayor Holland (Tim Robbins) so that the food cannot be sent to Mechanics.
Who supervises the loaders in the silo
Dispatch is responsible for how shippers operate
The operation of Silo 18 is an intrinsically coordinated affair between the various departments. Just as the Mechanic is responsible for keeping the Silo running, the Judiciary is tasked with maintaining law and order, the Doctor is where all the doctors and nurses can be found, and so on. Chargers are used by everyone in the SiloTherefore, it can be difficult to find out which department they belong to and who they report to. However, there is an answer.
There is a less mentioned department in Silo called Dispatchwho is responsible for supervising the doormen. Dispatch monitors, records and coordinates all deliveries that occur. It is located on level 10 of Silo 18. Generally speaking, the higher up in the Silo a department is located, the more official it is considered. Therefore, the fact that Dispatch is at level 10 proves how appreciated and important the service is by Silo characters.
