Undeniably, the events of yellow stone season 5 implies that the Duttons could soon lose the ranch. Here’s everything else viewers might have missed in the yellow stone season 4 finale and how they relate to the ongoing plot of the series.
Kayce’s visions foreshadow death and betrayal for Yellowstone Season 5
Your visions go beyond your own family
In yellow stone Season 4, Episode 10 “Grass in the Streets and Weeds on the Roofs,” Kayce had several visions while undergoing Hanbleceya (han-bi-lech-ia), or “crying for a vision.” In reality, Hanbleceya is a rite of passage for young warriors of the Lakota tribe and is one of the seven sacred ceremonies of the Lakota people. This means that Kayce is now a full member of the Broken Rock Indian Reservation community.
Like the dreams/visions of Dune protagonist Paul Atreides, Kayce’s visions reveal vague details about what the future will bring, such as the two invisible paths that represent his two contrasting identities. Furthermore, although the owl that Kayce saw in his visions symbolizes death and the spiritual world, his visions involving Lee Dutton (Dave Annable) and Avery (Tanaya Beatty) foreshadow betrayal and infidelity in yellow stone season 5.
Yellowstone’s Jamie Dutton’s Betrayal Plot Was Heavily Foreshadowed in Season 4
Jamie and Beth’s rivalry escalates
After Beth discovered from Terrell Riggins (Bruno Amato) that Jamie knew but did nothing about his father Garret’s (Will Patton) plans to murder the Duttons, Beth convinced Jamie to kill Garrett and then obtained evidence of the murder. As Beth told John, they now owned Jamie, which meant his loyalty to them was assured – or at least that’s what Beth thought.
The long-standing rivalry between Beth and Jamie is a recurring theme throughout the film. yellow stoneand reached its breaking point in yellow stone season 5. After Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) persuades Jamie to accuse Governor John Dutton, Beth’s confidence in “owning” her brother proves to be reckless.
In one of yellow stone biggest revelations of season 5, it turns out that Beth didn’t know about the train station and that exposing Jamie’s parricide meant exposing the entire ranch’s long history of murders.. With Sarah advising Jamie on how to organize murders and John doing the same for Beth, the Dutton family is falling apart from within.
On the other hand, since Jamie clearly touched a nerve when he made Beth realize that they actually share a common goal – to get out of ranching and make the farm more profitable – there’s still the possibility that Beth and Jamie could team up on yellow stone.
Summer’s house arrest could change the course of John Dutton’s impeachment
Summer complicates John’s professional life
While Jamie Dutton’s betrayal puts Beth’s power into question, Summer Higgins’ (Piper Perabo) conviction and prison sentence in yellow stone Season 4 showed that John Dutton may not be as powerful as his enemies make him out to be. In truth, John using his powers as governor to reduce Summer’s sentence and keep her at the ranch under house arrest in yellow stone season 5 could be the one that finally makes John vulnerable.
In fact, John keeping a criminal he forgave in his home – and then publicly kissing her at the fair – might just be the final nail in the coffin of John’s career as governor, which is being threatened by Jamie’s impeachment proceedings against John. Summer may also betray John when she finds out about the wolves yellow stone ranch hands Ryan and Colby killed. That said, as well as John’s general attitude of being authentic in public, the fact that he spends time with Summer could also garner even more support for the governor to remain in office.
Sarah Atwood may force John Dutton and Thomas Rainwater into a permanent alliance
Sarah has a lot of influence
Caroline even dropped the best villain monologue in the show’s history…
yellow stone Season 4 ended with Market Equities’ aggressive expansion plans being thwarted by Beth, who compromised the investment firm from within. In the process, Beth created a dangerous enemy in Market Equities CEO Caroline Warner (Jackie Weaver), who was considered Season 5’s new big bad. Despite that not being the case, Caroline still dropped the show’s best villain monologue. story when she spoke to Beth at the yellow stone season 4 finale:
“I manage the largest private fund in the world, and do you know what I did? You made this personal for me. I don’t care how much we spend or how long it takes. I’m going to put a public bathroom where your fucking house is. I will cut down every tree and dam every stream. I’m going to rape your fucking ranch to death. And you, you idiot, are going to prison.”
Despite being called back to New York after being defeated by the Duttons, Caroline could still fulfill her promise to Beth through the presence of Sarah Atwood.. Sarah, who provoked John’s impeachment, already threatens Governor John Dutton’s conservation easement plans for the ranch. Sarah could cause even more trouble if she took advantage of her knowledge of the train station, or if she found out about Summer’s house arrest, or how the hands of Yellowstone Dutton Ranch accidentally killed protected wolves.
It wouldn’t be so surprising if Market Equities was also involved in federal plans to run a pipeline through Paradise Valley. Overall, the threat Sarah poses to both the ranchers and Native American communities could be enough to force John and Thomas to work together, potentially laying the groundwork for a more permanent alliance.
Jimmy Hurdstram and Carter’s Character Arcs Reveal What Yellowstone Dutton Ranch Really Is
The ranch is family oriented

How Yellowstone Season 5 Started at the End of Season 4
Season 5 hits on family tension …while trying to destroy each other’s connection to family, Beth and Jamie are putting everyone around them in the middle of their potentially murderous family feud.
If the end of season 4 made it clear that Jamie and Beth would go to war over the ranch, season 5 began with that reality. While the war between them may not have been public, most of the conflicts in Season 5 stemmed from their inability to trust each other and their desire to get away from the ranch completely.
While Jamie has a case that he thinks will benefit a business, Beth learns everything she can about his actions. Every time it seems like one of them, or their father, is doing something to help the farm, the other hurts it. Their continued mutual betrayals echo the destruction of Kayce’s visions in Season 4, even though there is other destruction and death occurring throughout the season.
Ultimately, as they try to destroy each other’s connection to family, Beth and Jamie are putting everyone around them in the middle of their potentially murderous family feud. Although Beth wants her brother dead, he also doesn’t mind the idea of permanently eliminating her. This idea will also likely drive the conflicts in part 2 of season 5, which yellow stone fans had to wait over a year to see it.
