Although the Weyland-Yutani Corporation is the main villain of the Foreigner franchise, their plan is a little confusing in Alien: Romuluswith many viewers not knowing what they really wanted. Mostly Foreigner In films, the fact that Weyland-Yutani is behind the problems they find themselves in is often a twist on the characters, even though the audience already knows the company’s antagonistic history. However, there is usually still some motivation to be mustered, with Weyland-Yutani having a whole new plan in the story of Alien: Romulus.
Although it happens between Foreigner and Aliens, Alien: Romulus features an all-new cast of characters who are participating in an all-new story. This time, Rain, Andy and the rest of the gang are trying to escape a Weyland-Yutani mining colony and fly to a planet known as Yvaga III, which has outlawed the corporation. However, the characters must break into a Weyland-Yutani laboratory known as Romulo before doing this. This causes the Weyland-Yutani Corporation to severely complicate its planswith the characters having to discover what the company’s true motivations are.

Alien: Romulus opens on a rather terrifying scene, featuring a group of faceless Weyland-Yutani scientists sifting through the wreckage of the Nostromo. It then shows them experimenting on a black cocoon, with them welding it open. While it’s not immediately apparent what they’re doing, the audience soon learns the terrifying revelation that this cocoon actually contains the original Xenomorph from the first film. It is eventually revealed that Weyland-Yutani intentionally sought out the Xenomorph’s cocoon, with them having some terrible plans for the monster. Their goal is to experiment with the Xenomorph, with the company believing it is the perfect life form. They hope to use the Xenomorph to help humanity evolve further, though it’s not really explained how they know this is possible. Unfortunately, things are not going as well as the company expected. Shortly after breaking the Xenomorph out of its cocoon, it wakes up and attacks the scientists. Big Chap (the nickname of the original Foreigner Xenomorph) kills nearly every human aboard the space station, eventually being killed before his acidic blood decimates the ship. Thus, Weyland-Yutani’s plans to evolve humanity with the Xenomorph are not fully executed, although they take a huge step forward before the scientists’ untimely death.

Although the vials of black goo were seemingly doomed, they were given another chance at survival when Rain woke up the synthetic Tower. Upon awakening, Rook attempted to fulfill his prime directive of taking the goo back to Weyland-Yutani. However, this plan failed, with Alien: Romulus ending with the black goo aboard Rain and Andy’s ship, heading to a planet nine years away known as Yvaga III.

Despite executing these plans in a rather vile manner, Weyland-Yutani Corporation’s ultimate goal is to improve humanity for space colonization. Weyland-Yutani is a huge conglomerate, with its various branches covering a variety of fields such as mining, research, development, weapons manufacturing, and most importantly, colonization. Throughout the franchise, many planets that were colonized by Weyland-Yutani can be seen, such as Alien: Romulus‘ Jackson’s Star mining colony that exists on the planet LV-410. This is just one of the many planets that Weyland-Yutani uses to increase his profits, with his claws reaching into the farthest corners of space.
However, Weyland-Yutani’s colonization plans have a problem: the limits of humanity. Despite being well-suited for life on Earth, humans are not adapted to the various terrains and climates that can be found on entirely different planets. So even if Weyland-Yutani finds a planet that can support life, it may not be ideal for retaining workers. For example, Jackson’s Star has the problem of humans getting sick due to high pollution and lack of sunlight. How Weyland-Yutani’s goal in Alien: Romulus connects to aliens

First, Burke instructed the colonists to investigate the Xenomorph eggs, creating the infestation that serves as the main conflict in Aliens. Then, it is revealed that Burke wanted to implant Xenomorph eggs into Ripley and News, allowing him to smuggle them back to Weyland-Yutani.
Fortunately, Ripley manages to thwart Burke’s plan, once again delaying Weyland-Yutani’s greatest aspirations. However, a corporation as large as Weyland-Yutani cannot be controlled by a single individual for long. It’s likely that the corporation got its hands on another Xenomorph sample not long after the events of Aliensthis being implicit in Alien: Resurrection.
