Warhammer 40K's newest miniature: Who is Fulgrim?

War Hammer 40,000 is resurrecting one of its most diabolical characters with an all-new, stunning miniature coming in 2025. Next year, Games Workshop will release a new line of Emperor's Children miniatures, bringing a new group of Chaos Space Marines to War Hammer 40,000. The Emperor's Children are best known for having Noise Marines among them, who utilize powerful sonic weapons to disorient and kill their enemies. Like other Chaos Space Marines, the Emperor's Children are led by a fallen Primarch, a human demigod influenced by the Ruinous Forces. And in 2025, your Primarch will make his grand return to the game.

On Christmas Day, Games Workshop revealed a new figure for Fulgrim, the demon prince leader of the Emperor's Children. The miniature depicts Fulgrim as a four-armed monster with wings and a serpentine lower half. Although he may seem like a terrifying monster, Fulgrim was once a Primarch of humanity, created by the Emperor of Mankind to lead his armies and build the Empire of Mankind. However, Fulgrim was influenced by the pull of Chaos and betrayed the Emperor during the Horus Heresy. Fulgrim survived the encounter and eventually rose to the rank of demon prince, remaining out of sight to this day.

Who is Warhammer 40K's Primarch Fulgrim?

Fulgrim is a corrupted demigod seduced by the powers of chaos

Fulgrim, pictured in the next miniature revealed on the official website War Hammer YouTube channel, is one of the 20 Primarchs, superhuman transhumans created by the Emperor of Humanity. As babies, all the Primarchs were taken from the Emperor's laboratory by the forces of Chaos and scattered across the galaxy. Fulgrim was deposited on a remote world and eventually became its leader before being found by the Emperor. When meeting his father for the first time, Fulgrim dedicated himself to emulating the Emperor's perfection. He became close to fellow primarch Ferrus Manus, who forged the Fireblade for him to wield.

While conquering a planet, Fulgrim found a sword in a temple. Unbeknownst to him, the sword had a Slaaneshi demon in it, which corrupted his mind and turned his quest for perfection into a quest for hedonism. Fulgrim joined Horus and other traitor forces during the Drop Site Massacre on Istvaan V. During that battle, Fulgrim killed his brother Ferrus Manus. Fulgrim was horrified by what he had done, but the Slaaneshi demon in his blade possessed him to maintain the loyalty of the Emperor's Children. Fulgrim would eventually retake his body, but remained under the rule of Chaos until the end of the Horus Heresy.

Why Fulgrim is returning to Warhammer now

Fulgrim completes a cycle started years ago, bringing classic Primarchs back to the game

Fulgrim was one of the four original daemon primarchs made as miniatures for Epic Space Marine, an epic-scale miniatures game that allowed for larger-scale combat than ever before. War Hammer 40K. In recent years, Games Workshop recreated these miniatures as figures for War Hammer 40K armies, with Fulgrim following Mortarion, Magnus and Angron into the game. The addition of Fulgrim and his Emperor's Children also means that each of the Chaos gods now has their own chapter dedicated to the Chaos Space Marine in the game.

What's not clear is why Fulgrim is returning to the world of War Hammer 40K. Although Fulgrim was somewhat more active than his fallen Chaos brethren after the fall of the Horus Heresy, he was isolated for 10,000 years. His return alongside several other Primarchs, both traitors and loyalists, seems to signal that another conflict is on the horizon. We'll likely get a hint as to why Fulgrim and the Emperor's Children will return soonalthough it may take a while for Warhammer 40K's notoriously slow stories to come together.
