Warning: Spoilers for Deadpool #9!and truth. The original Dead PoolWade Wilson, is back from the dead. Earlier this year, Marvel decided to shake things up by putting Wade in front of a new villain who found a way to neutralize his healing factor. The end result of that bloody encounter saw Deadpool die in the official continuity. In the aftermath, Wade's teenage daughter, Ellie Camacho, felt called to take on the mantle of Deadpool in his honor. Now, Wade Wilson's death has been undone from Dead Pool #9 by Cody Ziglar, Alexis Quasarano, Andrea Di Vito, GURU-eFX and VC's Joe Sabino.
How does this happen? The issue concludes with Ellie finding a way to bring Wade back from the dead with the help of Deadpool's former partner, Valentine Vuong. The pair are able to use Valentine's powers to resurrect Wade. So yes, our loudmouth mercenary is back.
Although most readers expected Wade's supposedly permanent death to always be temporary, his revival raises bigger questions, revolving around whether his daughter will still serve as Deadpool, as well as where the story could go from here..
The original Deadpool comes back to life
Recapping His Death and Resurrection
This new era of Deadpool saw Wade Wilson reunite with his daughter while hiring Taskmaster to train Ellie to use her newfound powers to become a superhero. Most importantly, the antagonist Deadpool meets along the way is Death Grip, someone so obsessed with death that he becomes equally obsessed with Deadpool after learning that the hero has a healing factor that makes him impossible to kill. Death Grip searches for the infamous Muramasa Blade as they plan to absorb the weapon's power to neutralize Wade's healing powers.
Wade narrowly escapes what he thinks will be his final confrontation with Death Grip, but is seriously injured having lost limbs that cannot regrow. As he is incapacitated, he leaves the work of his bounty hunting business to Taskmaster and his two daughters. While your symbiote princess offers ample support, Wade passes the Deadpool mantle to Ellie. However, during a mission, Death Grip ambushes Wade to finish what he started. Ellie has been working hard to find a way to revive her father ever since.
That's when she meets her father's old flame, Valentine, whose mutant power is to make compounds with her hands. Ellie wants to mix Valentine's power with the magic of alchemy and her own blood to resurrect Wade. Although Valentine is skeptical that the plan will work, their love for Wade convinces them to try. An encounter with MODOK shows Ellie that her healing power is limited, putting her on the brink of death, but if Valentine's ritual works, it can cure Ellie and Wade. Miraculously, the plan works, but not without potential side effects.
Is Ellie still Deadpool?
It looks like there will be two Deadpools in the future
With Deadpool's limbs intact, it appears Wade is back to fully operating as Deadpool. Taskmaster wastes no time, as moments after being revived, he hands Wade the paperwork for his next mission so everyone can take action. The keyword here is all. Deadpool & Daughters is a family business, and it seems that way the whole family will be included in this mission: Wade (the CEO), Taskmaster (presumably second-in-command since he was the company's acting CEO in Wade's absence, PR operations manager Doug Siravanta, the community outreach princess, and of course, “nepo hire” Ellie.
Starting next issue, Deadpool will continue to fight with his eldest daughter by his side, and readers can assume she will still wear the mask. Wade doesn't question the state of the mantle once it's fully operational again, so, in a tradition-changing move, the Marvel Universe will host two Deadpools from now on. They can be seen sharing the cover of Dead Pool #10, as the double Deadpools confirm this further. It appears that the current state of the Deadpool title will function in the same way as the Spider-Man mantle, with Peter Parker and Miles Morales serving in the role at the same time.
What are the side effects of Deadpool's resurrection?
Is Ellie's mom back?
The only thing that's unclear at the moment is what exactly the repercussions of Wade Wilson's return among the living were. Traditionally in In the Marvel Universe, dealing with magic has its consequencesand it is implied that this is no different. When Ellie enters the afterlife, she briefly encounters her late mother and Wade's ex, Carmelita Camacho. Carmelita was killed by The Butler in 2013 Dead Pool #18, one issue before Ellie's first panel appearance.
Without going into details, Carmelita alludes to a “gift” that Ellie is gaining from this experience that comes with a “sacrifice.” Future issues will likely reveal everything, but at the end of the issue, Ellie sees her mother (a ghost?) emerging from the shadows. The good news is that Ellie's efforts as a superhero and as Deadpool will continue in the next issue. The bad news is that Wade Wilson Dead Pool may have to deal with the consequences of his daughter's actions to bring him back to life.
