Viral Dragon Ball theory suggests Majin Buu is actually related to Frieza: here's how

Dragon Ball Daima was more than willing to expand the series' story over its first nine episodesdiving deep into the Demon Realm and focusing on those who originated from it. So far, the anime has revealed that both Namekians and Glind, the race Shin belongs to, are native to the kingdom. Dragon Ball has never been a stranger to retcons, and it looks like his newest change completely rewrites Majin Buu's origin.

Originally said to have been created by the wizard Bibidi, Buu came under Babidi's control after the evil wizard's defeat by the Kais. Dragon Ball Daimahowever, it left this origin story completely aside, revealing that Buu was actually the creation of the Grand Witch Marba. And in episode 9, titled “Thieves,” the ever-mysterious Dr. Arinsu, with the help of Marba, creates an entirely new version of Buu, called Majin Kuu.

While the retcon doesn't make much difference to Buu's role in the story, it does raise questions about how he was created. Seeing that Kuu is the product of a Saibaman seed and a dash of Buu, fans began to wonder what ingredients were used in creating the original terrifying pink Majin. Unexpectedly, how pointed by user X, Zero_skill0some important details point to the iconic and cowardly Frieza involved.

Dragon Ball's two villains share a similar trait

On time Dragon Ball Daima spent in the Demon Realm, the series made it clear that native demons have pointy ears. The main feature has been used to explain Namek and Glind's ties to the kingdom, and has been a key identifier for several characters to recognize that Goku comes from the outside world. Now that the newly introduced Kuu's ears are also pointed, Majin Buu's visibly round ears stand out from the crowd.

While there may be other explanations for Buu's lack of Demon Realm features, fans have pointed to Frieza as another character with similarly shaped ears. He's not the only villain to have the identifying trait, but he is the only one who expressed prior knowledge of Buu's existence. During his return in 2015 Resurrection 'F'the iconic space tyrant reveals that his father, King Cold, warned him to stay away from Beerus and Majin Buu.

Frieza explaining that King Cold warned him about Buu and Beerus in Resurrection 'F'.

The only characters who knew of Buu's existence before the battle with the Earthlings were Beerus, the Kais and other selected natives of the Demon Realm. Beerus is likely aware of him due to the attack on Kais, which would have consequences for the Shredder's well-being. The inhabitants of the Demon Realm may know him simply for being a Majin, which leaves a mystery as to how exactly King Cold would have learned about Buu.

Given the distinctly round ears, a member of Frieza's race may have been one of the ingredients in the creation of Majin Buu. It may seem like a stretch to come to this conclusion based on your ears alone, although the fact that King Cold is the only non-deity or denizen of the Demon Realm to be aware of Buu's existence creates an interesting line between the two characters.

Buu and Frieza are not the only characters with the same characteristic

Several villains have similarly shaped ears.

Although their devil-shaped ears are a curious and common feature, Frieza and Buu aren't the only ones Dragon Ball villains who have them. In fact, Perfect Cell also has the same distinctive ear shape, marking all three Dragon Ball Z main antagonists of the era as sharing the trait. Dragon Ball SuperJiren's Jiren also has them, while Hit seems to have some close variation. What makes the theory interesting is the knowledge of Buu's existence that was passed on to Frieza, and how it was acquired in the first place.

Unfortunately, the fact that so many villains share the same ear shape also points to the possibility that some random, common species may have been used as an ingredient in Majin Buu's creation. And while the possibility is a lot less fun than having Frieza and Buu become related, it's very real.

Dragon Ball Daima did not facilitate the rewriting of already established franchise tradition, and doesn't seem to have any intention of doing so. Future episodes will likely continue to expand the universe of Dragon Balland fans won't want to miss the action.
