After nearly five years since retiring the imprint, DC Comics has officially announced at NYCC 2024 the highly anticipated return of VERTIGO. This is a major moment for the publisher, reigniting one of its most iconic imprints known for groundbreaking, mature storytelling. Adding to the excitement, DC revealed the flagship title that will lead the revival, setting the tone for a bold new era of Vertigo Comics.

On October 19, 2024, DC officially announced during the Jim Lee and Friends Panel at New York Comic Con that the Vertigo imprint would make a triumphant return. Along with this surprise came the confirmation that The nice house by the sea— by James Tynion IV, Alvaro Martínez Bueno and Jordie Bellaire — will be reprinted under the Vertigo bannerServes as the imprint’s flagship title.

Originally published under DC’s Black Label, The nice house by the sea is a series aimed at mature readers, Reaffirming Vertigo’s commitment to its original mission of providing adult-oriented content and expanding DC’s range of storytelling.

DC Comics discontinued the VERTIGO imprint in January 2020

Originally launched in 1993 by editor Karen Berger, Vertigo Comics was created to give DC the creative freedom to publish bold, mature content. It quickly became iconic, delivering groundbreaking titles like The Sandman, Swamp thing, Preacher, FablesAnd Hellblazer. However, in the 2010s, Vertigo began to decline as series II Hellblazer And swamp thing were absorbed into DC’s main comic line, and in January 2020, the imprint was officially discontinued. Its place was taken by DC Black Label, part of a broader initiative to consolidate all comic titles under one banner.

While much remains to be seen about Vertigo’s new direction with its relaunch, Fans are excited to see The nice house by the sea Fall under the Vertigo banner, which is the imprint’s return to creator-owned comics.
